So I got a meeting in Plymouth at 11am!! On a friday!! That's like 300miles each way!! Actually found myself checking the forecast in case the weather was going to be sunny and 10deg warmer... what a waste of time that was! Not how I like so start the weekend at all!
Train from reading, has your employer completed a risk assessment for you driving that far in a day? What does your work policy say about fatigue / taking breaks etc.?
I know what mine would say... Are you serious? Man the fcuk up dude and be pleased it ain't at 8am! Lol I work in the wrong industry
Have they not got conference rooms with video?? Or even do facetime via ipads / imacs?? Surely much cheaper for your company esp if ur in the IT sector???
Feel for ya man My firm work a 10 hr day and then 8 hr commute home, had a bad crash doing it last year and it all got ignored Still doing it
Yeah I work in that end of the industry too unfortunately.... Gotta go there cos they want the whole site refurbed with a new network overlaying the existing one as the work goes on and migrating over etc We do risk assessments for our works but not ourselves as Jimbo allures to your seen as a sissy otherwise Will set off around 5:40am and told my number two to meet me at Bristol to share the last 2hrs of driving
Indeed navvy. You are just expected to get it done - and tbh, I don't mind, I'm wired like that anyway. Normally commute 3hrs plus and do 10/12 hours at work. That's the job. Not right, and in hindsight, we should prob protect ourselves more. Hope it all goes ok dude.
Yeah I'm gonna be cautious and have a cuppa before I set off on this one I do 3-4hrs commute and 8-10hrs on site so it's not a huge shock it's just a FRIDAY man....
I learnt too much writing our policy and attending the IOSH course! I've also done the long day working in away, and 5 mins before you are about to leave a user pipes up 'can you just look at this' - they've had it up their sleeve all day, did not pre warn you and it takes ages to sort, you then hit rush hour leaving town, so the journey takes longer etc. That really hacks me off, as others say 'its the job' Good call to split the driving etc.
Lol As Jimbo said, man the fook up ya gimp, and get it done Can only imagine what I would say if someone hit me with that risk assessment malarky.
