One of the few tunnels along the road, SP@@KY Arrived in Broto, hotel had a garage too “underground parking” we spent a night here, I actually introduced Steve to something, fried baby eels,
Monday 23rd September. Nothing to show for photos here, we took a long days ride to get our final two nights where we started the tour, Potes, apart from the N1 the roads are the same as what you have already seen? Tuesday 24th September Our last but one night in Spain we thought we had better get some fresh roads in, it all looked so simple when I’d looked at the maps, a nice 150 mile loop when I was sat at home, doing it whilst there we struggled to find the roads I had intended. That said, we wasn’t disappointed.
You know, when I started this trip, I’d see this sign and go into a panic, But even after my 4th 5th day, every time I saw it, I just I don’t know, I just sort of smiled dropped the bike down 1 or 2 cogs, and kind of went YEAH BABY, bring them on!!! A fantastic road, and some obstacles along the way. Question, why do cows shit on the best riding lines? Traffic calming, The Spanish way!!
Bit of a tourist must do, this place, seemed every man/woman on two wheels stops her for a photo. Come on let’s be honest, you would not have expected anything less, Back to Potes, a slight disappointment, our favourite fine dining establishment was closed, we had to go second best, just wanted to have our last evening meal to remember, but it was ok!
Wednesday 25th September. All good things must come to an end, we pack our bags for the last time, and leave them at reception to collect later in the day, we have another crack at completing the loop, well, the roads, it would have been rude not to. Again not many pics for today, but the riding was amazing! Come on, everyone would have, wouldn’t you? Never thought I’d have seen my blade looking like this, these are what is known as slow flies. Bag collection time. Well, no turning back now I guess! Meet the 5th member of the trip, he never left me or caused me any trouble all holiday, I met him on day 3 somewhere on the N240 His name…………… Is Jimmy. That’s me out, hope you enjoyed? I’ll update the very first page with information Hotels maps links etc as and when. There’s also thousands of non-forum photos, I’ll do a video clip of them with just a couple of second view, upload it to youtube and post a link. There is also loads of others photos too, plus video footage that still needs editing down, again once done, I will add a link Thanks for looking
Distinct lack of chicken strips there Gaz...... Suitably impressed!!!!!! Have you got the european bug now then dude??
Gary, just wanna say thanks for spending the time getting all the pics together and posting up a corresponding story line to go along with it! Not sure if MrsB was enjoying the peace and quiet she was receiving while you were locked away in a cupboard using the computer to populate the thread with the fruits of your labour or if MrsB was about to throw the computer out on the front lawn n back over it with the family car? Either way give hur my best regards of not discouraging you from completing your mission!
I can honestly say, that's the best value for a set of tyres I've ever had Si, I never got to use so much of an area of them. Have I got the bug?, Very much so, I'd go do it all again tomorrow if I could....... But, I guess I'll have to wait until next year, like the rest of us
Superb. I've done pretty much everywhere you went over the years, so it brought back some amazing memories. Thanks for the pics and the write up!
Another of what is sure to be many more video clips of the trip? Steve, Jason and myself going out for an afternoon run at the beginning of the trip "day 2" , weather was poor with cloud as we got nearer the top a little bit of knee down action "not me" at the end of the clip. cut the footage short by 10 minutes, camera began to steam up. Meant as a reference to the roads we experienced, not my ability Enjoy. I know we did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KPbQbdotkY
That was our first really fantastic road, superb surface and more twisties than your head can handle! And the roads just got better and better! We rode this route until the weather closed in on us then just turned round and did it again. At the end of the trip myself and Gary returned for another crack at it, and we weren't disappointed. Think we did a full loop of about 150 miles. This particular stretch was the N621 from Potes to Riano in the Picos de Europa. It was every sport biker's dream! Well done Gary for capturing that, and if I remember rightly, when we did it again at the end of the holiday I couldn't shake you off!
Second part of the video, Steve Jason and I coming down to Fuente De, Potentially 15 minutes of your life you'll never get back, sorry its so long, but a good reference of the roads........ Second part to Fuente De - YouTube
Not sure whats happening to be honest Craig, The camera Wasn't the best in hind sight, and once its uploaded the quality is even worse, Al's vids will be much better
What another fabulous road that was! Only issue I had with it was it came to a dead end, so if a cop sees you speeding going up it, he just has to sit and wait for you to come back down! Great road surface and long sweepers with very little traffic around.......What more could you ask for? No wonder we'd heard it was the place to head for if you're on a bike! Imagine that road over here with a bike meet at the end! Except it would be crawling with cops and 30mph do-gooders in cars!
It's took me 2 days to read this thread as I was up at 4 this morning..drove to Edinburgh...had a meeting for 7 hours and drove back...and if the gaffer of my company don't think I work hard enough I've been on laptop since so I'm thinking 10 days in September is a well deserved break coming up.... Great thread, reminds me of our trip in 08 with Steve only we had less technology then...think iPhones were only just becoming popular and we had none of this pinning stuff! Just full on throttle, steves fine dining and steves expensive wines!! Wouldn't have changed a thing and if this was similar which it looked like it was I'm sure it was a great crack! Top thread Gary from start to finish. Well done mate
Thanks Will, appreciate your comments. It did get a bit long winded with the build up, that was my fault getting all excited and posting it what some 10-11 months in advance. I had a lot of support from the contributers, and as the pictures show. Pretty similar to your 2008 trip, a no pressure trip. Let's hope you get the result we are all hoping for
