With such a large choice where do I start its a modification that I want to get done next year and with the top 3 I have heard good reports on.Is it down to what you are willing to spend as I am no expert on suspension .I plan to race hopefully 10 races at different tracks and Oulton been my local track plus do my fair share of trackdays what things do I need to consider when choosing as they all seem to offer the same . 1.Ohlins 2.K tech 3.Maxton Sorry if this has been done to death already .
I'm going to enjoy this one. Think your list is about right. Obviously ohlins has the rep, but I'd gladly have ktech as I think it's quality without the bling. How muh you want to spend is the question dude? Ps - whatever you get I am too lol
I would personally give a big shout out to K-Tech. It has the quality of Ohlins, but doesn't have the price tag. Properly good stuff. My mate Mike has had the full works put on his race R6 and won't shut up about it.
What kind of price are you talking for the full works ? K tech have an agent in Wrexham not far from me .
I'm with Robin Jase! There was a very good write up in Fast Bikes I think with an indepth interview with K-Tech's MD They are as good as Ohlins but he openly admits they will never challenge them on the World Stage as the OEM Support at Race Events is the Killer. K-Tech spend about £60K a year supplying free Tech Support at UK Race Meets Ohlins do this Worldwide at a huge cost, something K-Tech can't compete with. Their gear is just as good by all reports so that's where my Dollars would go if racing. Just for Track day use my ZX10 will be getting Maxton gear next year!
Jas, Colin got a quote from FTR just over a week ago for fitting k-tech bits to his blades forks including springs to weight, piston kit n flow control valves inc fitting £395!
I've had maxton forks on my 2003 R6 and was happy with them, but will hopefully be getting a K-tech rear shock put on my blade if the belgium importer hasn't gone bust cause he ain't replying to my emails otherwise it's be Wilbers, as there race support is second to none here in Belgium(and very local) where as the others have no race/track support... This would be my choice of rearshock list K-tech 35DDS Ohlins WP Wilbers Bitubo For the BPF I'm just getting the oil changed and serviced for the first year to see if they are as good as some say...
Rear shock 1100 new. As ssu says, pistons and springs 400. New cartridges either 850 or 1100 depending on spec. My wish list would be to find a 2nds hand shock and have the pistons and springs done. I'd prefer cartridges obviously but I think the piston and springs should see me ok and suits my budget
I had my front forks totally rebuilt by MCT in Stowmarket Suffolk this year. I was originally going for Ktech internals but after discussing my needs with MCT he gave me the option of using their own internals. I decided to give their kit a try, so I had all the internals replaced (apart from springs which I had done about 6 months before).I already had the Ohlins rear which I got second hand for £500 plus I spent £80 on having it serviced. The MCT kit has been excellent and including the set up it cost around £500. I was going to get cartridges eventually, but tbh I just can not find a single criticism of the forks. I have previously had Ohlins on other bikes and marzochi's etc and my current ones perform perfectly. I know many people like to go for well known brands but there are some smaller competitors who have great kit and can tailor it to your own needs.
its got to be k tech for me all the way, proper kit that does what it says on the tin ive run 20mm kits in my gixxers and its always been better than me , ive got full dds on my blade and its twice as good as me !!! biggest thing for me has to be , it doesn't matter how much you spend , if it isn't set up right its a waste of money fork wise for 550 you can get a 20mm cartridge kit and k tech adjusters, spring it right on oe springs if need be , set it up right and you cant go wrong

Where are they 550 mate, the cheapest I saw on their website was 850 I think. I know they used to be this sort of money a few years back and I was surprised at 850.... My pal had his fitted for about 800 on his k5 but seems like the price has gone up over last couple of years!? Here you go jase. I think Mike paid £2,200 for the shock and valve kit for the forks. I have seen scone hand K-Tech 35DDS shocks go for about £800. James at Infront in Chester does K-Tech, but Mike and I have used Tony at Moto Corse in Wrexham. Either are good blokes and know their stuff.
Ive a 25 SSK kit in mine and a TTX rear. If I was to change anything itd be for DDS all round. K-Tech is the daddy in the UK
Always heard good stuff about ktech and Nitron > just seem to getting better and better and more bikes running nitron in race paddocks
Cant say i've heard to much about them mate, but seems a big diff in spec / cost between the two. CBR1000RR Non ABS | CBR | Honda | Motorcycles | Nitron no doubt the cheaper one is better than stock, but would you be wasting your money in putting one of these in!?
I paid £350 for my Nitron Pro Race and all I can say is that at my level of riding, it is superb. Maybe at the top of 600 grid, it may be out-performed by K-Techs, but I have no complaints so far. true , my old man is running a nitron this year and has said for the money it couldn't be beat , does exactly what he needs and no more for a very sensible price I put a 20mm ssk kit with oe springs and k tech adjusters in my k7 2 years ago for 575 im sure ,mind you it does help im friendly with a k tech technician !!! there is the rrk kit which is more track biased I think which is about another 75 sheets,had this in my k5 but my untalented ass couldn't tell the difference , those ebay prices are pretty good to be fair , my 25mm ssk forks costs 1200 to build and my 35dds shock was 1500 , I think there are 2 levels of dds mind , one is cheaper I believe as it doesn't have the red bypass valve on it oh and if your around devon our local performance centre , peak performance is run by steve whittaer , I believe a k tech pro approved technician , either way hes been putting k tech in my trackbikes for the last 5 years and can do no wrong as far as im concerned , bloody descent fella too
