I'm toying with the idea of selling my 09 Repsol blade and buying a track bike,I love the bike to bits, but feel I'm not using it as much as I'd like and don't get anywhere near it's potential on the road so I'm thinking of getting rid and venturing down the trackbike route has anyone done this and do you miss the road bike side of things or is there anyone who's done this and thought " this is the best thing I've done " any thoughts would be appreciated. It's something I'm seriously considering myself when my road riding days come to an end, I do have a track bike but I'd track the blade too, perhaps run the two side by side, just have the gixer set up for wet and the blade for the dry. My opinion on your question, Upside, no chance of brown envelopes dropping through the letter box. Downside waking up on a sunny morning and not having a bike to go out on, getting to your track day and it's pi££ing down. Also the costs to run a track bike regular IMO would work out much more expensive than a road bike, taking in to consideration parts/tyres etc That said, If your happy with it? Go with it.
Why sell the Repsol? Just Track that instead and keep the Road fairings etc so U have the best of both worlds
I did think of that ,but I've never done a trackday and couldn't afford to throw 6.5k down the road if(or when) things went tits up , I thought sell the blade buy a cheaper track bike and if I really got into it upgrade the trackbike ,but if I couldn't get into tracks sell it and buy another road bike. Gary makes some really valid points with this. I have considered this in the past but could not do it unless I could have a road and track bike and I just can not afford to track and run a road bike nor can I afford to trash my beloved bike on track. I love road riding so much and in good weather ride 3 to 4 times a week at least and usually in winter on average about once a week. To not be able to do this would be crippling for me. Like most things, you have to weigh up what you want and what you can afford. Selling your bike will involve some financial loss, as will buying another if you do not like track riding. For my own finances and available time due to work and family etc, I reckoned I would probably only be able to afford about 8 track days a year and I need to ride a bike much more than that. Good luck with whatever you decide, but it might be a good idea to give it some long and serious thought.
I think I've made my mind up I think I'll keep the road bike and see what work brings in next year, if all goes well I might be able to scrape enough together for a cheap track bike and have the best of both worlds, if not I still have my blade to blast about on whenever the mood grabs me and as it gets a bit older I will consider buying it some track clothing and track that, thanks for the info lads. The thought of taking off 2009 road fairings then fitting track fairing then refitting the road fairings after you have done the track day would be a fecking nightmare .That was my first thought when I stripped my 09 blade to put track fairings on after doing it I thought feck that there is no chance they are ever going back on. But I did then miss the ride outs so had to buy a road bike bloody expensive hobby we all have. But your other option is track it and put track fairings on it and use on a day time mot so at least you get summer use out of it on the roads as not dark till 10pm.Most of the accidents I have seen on track is normally major fairing damage which is the most costly if on a road bike with road fairings but track fairings are so cheap £300 issh and you get to experience the blade on track .Best of both words IMO.
