Hence y alot of firms n even private motorists are fitting cameras all iver thr vehicles, just to prove sum idiot on a bike had a death wish coming up the inside cus he had his invisible armour on!!!
Well I used to commute by cycle when I worked in Bristol and London. Of course I did my training and passed my cycling proficiency test when I was about 9 years old What you have to realise is that if you force a cycling test onto people before they can ride in public places then that would apply to little kids too. Of course we could carry this safety measure even further and apply it to horse riders, mobility scooters etc etc. Sadly some drivers have the "bastard cyclists don't pay road tax so they shouldn't be on the road" mentality. Of course people here will have also met their friend with the "bastard motorcyclists shouldn't be allowed to filter and should be forced to sit in traffic with the rest of us" mentality. People have tried floating the idea of registering cycles but gave up when they realised there was no where suitable to put a plate. As for insurance most cyclists will have insurance coverage through their home contents policy, and believe it or not some have dedicated cycle insurance. Of course there will be tossers who don't have any and will do a runner if anything happens, but there are plenty of other road users who are the same. Don't get me wrong the cycling fashionistas with their I can do what I want on the road attitude piss me off as well. Believe it or not I have had toe to toe arguments with their type after calling them c**ts for jumping red lights. At the end of the day when a car/bus/truck hits a cyclist there is only one loser. Did that truck need to cut that cyclist up? No. Does that mean all truck drivers are tossers? No. Does it mean the cyclist shouldn't have been on the road? No. Charging cyclists to use the road makes as much sense as charging pedestrians to use the pavements. Come to think of it is it about time we had a go a pedestrians too? Walking out in front of us; crossing when the lights are against them; no insurance; no training. Sound familiar? Rant over
I drive 65miles to work in central London everyday so see this plus a lot worse! That's from Aldwych up Southampton row and have to agree with Jimbo the cyclist needed to react to that rather than just pedalling furiously as if he is invincible.... They are very dangerous roads so cyclists need to ride very defensively and not worry about their right of way but worry about staying alive! I've seen many a cyclist knocked over 'proving a point' but to me the only point they prove is they are softer than vehicles!
