Nice bike that, many of my mates run the belts for three years, and they work for Ducati! Many Ducati owners will scare the crap out of you over belt service stories but they are stronger than some may think, however defo remove the covers and inspect them in unknown history. The early 848 has some horror stories too with crank and gearboxes (selector spring) but I know many owners who track them and have +10k miles with zero problems. I still love my 848 and tbh I very much enjoy the querkyness of it, it shocks my mates how quick it is trough the B roads, its a fair match for most 1L bikes even though way down on power, guess the twin packs such a low down punch they spend some time catching up between turns. Best thing you could buy for it is a Sigma slipper and a Oberon clutch slave.. :)

Oberon slaves from anywhere mate, good deals on eBay. Sigma is not a cheap slipper but is GREAT for the 848 if you like to ride hard into turns, I get them and can do a deal PM me sometime.. I'd ride it for a while but you will soon want that slave as the clutch is heavy without one, the Sigma well, you would have to try one before you spend £650+ or take my word how good they are.

Oberon Ducati Superbike 848 EVO (CLU-0116) Titanium Clutch Slave Cylinder | eBay

    Our range of slipper clutches

Belts:- each 2 years or 7,500 miles.

Good luck mate, they are a great fun bike and can be highly modded!

Top mods are, custom ECU remap, dial in cams as they are all miles out!, full system, slipper, slave cyl, Ohlins rear shock from a S model or a TTX, and MUCH more, dial off ALL the preload from the rear as already said and add a few clicks of comp and it's a different bike for 20mins of work, TTX transforms them as does light wheels and front end rework, the list is LONG!

I've ordered the oberon slave 94+ p&p. Easy enough mod. The YouTube video's on timing belts don't look to hard tbh I'd give that ago;-)

+1 on the Oberon slaves, makes such a difference.
my cams where out the first time I got the belts done and the dealer
tried to say it was my fault the timing was out after a belt change.
another dealer fixed it for £70, taught me to stay clear of the stealers lol.
apart from that mine never failed to start and never threw up alarms.
think the locking tool costs around £250 (or it did in 09) but the first time you
do it also check all the TDC marks (unlike the dealer I got) lol.
belts are not that dear now anyway but as art said they do last longer than they
    say they do.

oh also inside the main beam there is a small metal rectangle part in the reflector,
use some needlenose plyers and a magnetic screwdriver to remove this and it greatly
increases the main beam power, along with some osram nightbreakers.

You need dial gauges to set the cams it's not as easy as just changing the belts, takes some time to set up but is the only way to dial the timing, the timing is out from standard and no two are the same, seems Ducati like to send them out any old how!
