Good evening.... would appreciate any help with the following. The stepson will be doing the No Limits Race series in the newcomers 1000 Class in 2014. Currently the bike ( 08 Blade ) is running -1 +2 final drive gearing. Can anyone advise the optimum gearing for Snetterton,Cadwell,Oulton,Anglessey,Donnington. Thanks Richard.
tbh he wont be far off with that gearing at most tracks.i ran 15//44 at oulton+donny and found it spot on,ran upto 47 for a while, and whilst was good,it makes te front very flighty, but does give drive out of the corners, you just need to be confident with the front being very light, and lifting over crests.
I am racing also in the same class try 150 on the rear 2 on the front . Only kidding how old is your stepson ?
150 on the rear !!!!!...............Jamie is 28 ..strange question ..why do you ask!!!! neither of us has raced before we have been doing 4 years now of trackdays but Jamie has progressed quickly and now has the racing bug and we thought the No limits option seemed to be cheapest and friendly. I have no desire at age 60 to race ...quite happy on the 600rr doing track days. maybe you have seen us in the paddock somewhere..... Renault master with bike breakdown service signage....Hows your preparation going for the series going
I ask how old as I am 44 and just started racing so interested what age others are that have just started racing . Bike is pretty much ready now just need to drain the antifreeze which I will do in march also need to get Dunlop d212 tyres on as we can't use slicks which is a shame.
U won't be using dunlops I'm sure there tyre choices are pirelli and metzler same company Alonso I'd use a 211 dunlop rather than a 212 there stickier i have a pair of both just saying I'll see u lads out there
For the no limits newcomers 1000 you can use any v or z rating tyres or slicks unless a novice then no slicks its only in the other no limits race serious you can only use certain tyre makes .
I run 14 - 43 on my 2010 Blade and works pretty well at cadwell , snett , donny and oulton . my best time is a 140 at cadwell to give you some idea of my pace I forgot to add i dont use 1st gear with this gearing just saves going thru neutral . I know some people gear their bikes to run from 1st to 5th
the other thing you need to consider is your chain length, uping your gearing will result in needing a longer/shorter chain depending which way you go,if you have too many/too few links it will throw your wheelbase out of sync.basically too long a chain, needing all the swingarm to take the slack can slow down tip in,but help stop wheelies, and too short a chain will make the wheelbase too short, resulting in twitchy/unstable turning in and very flighty. i could never remember the optimum wheelbase, luckily a thread elsewhere just came up about it.ideally 595mm from centre of rear spindle,to centre of swingarm pivot.
