I've had my Blade a few weeks now and noticed when I bought it there was Kais stickers front and back on the suspension. Also the forks had been lowered thru the yokes so 2 rings were showing. Well after a few weeks of riding her like that I've decided I'm gonna get the forks put back to standard cos I'm finding the new girl a bit twitchy at the front and the gap between bars and fairing is tiny at full lock. So I'm off there on fri to raise the forks cos I just don't have the facilities to do it at home at the moment, also I'm hoping to find out what has been done to the suspension. Fingers crossed for a dry day so I can test the adjustments out.
Time you there John? I may pop over and say hello to you and the lads. They fitted rear Ohlins on the XT1200Z & rebuilt Trinitys rear shock and forks! Be nice to say hello
Taking mine to Kais on Saturday morning, having the rear Ohlins shock serviced and a quick inspection of the front forks as they judder under extreme braking (05 trackbike).
Mine used to do this had forks checked discs checked wheel checked and balanced a million times changed to brembo brake fluid and never had the problem again
We chatted about this once before Wedgie, didn't have the problem for quite a while but when I fitted a Brembo master cylinder and a pair of slicks it reared it's head again. Gonna have him check the forks for bottoming out as this would be the best way to describe what I'm feeling. It only happens under extreme braking and there's only 10mm between the bottom of the fork and the tie wrap. I was told that the tie wrap would never actually touch the bottom of the fork so my way of thinking is if he uses slightly less fork travel ie. the tie wrap would sit further up the fork leg, if it still judders under braking then at least I can rule bottoming out, out..........If you see what I mean!
Steve, what happens if you increase your preload does it still do the same thing? When was the forks last serviced? Have they done many trackdays since service? Normally bottoming out forks are remedied by 1. adding some extra (low speed) fork compression. 2. Adding preload. 3. Adding more fork oil into fork (prob best done while servicing forks). 4. Increasing fork spring rate.
Ah motul good stuff ! Yeah mine were really low the fork dive indicators, i sent the forks to brooks suspension they were still close sometimes but never as low was they were standard
Craig, forks were fully serviced quite recently so I'm sure that's not an issue. Spoke to Nick at Kais and he's going to put stronger springs in. It has Ohlins springs and oil already fitted.
My bike will prob. go there in January / Feb for some TLC - something really not right upfront - disks being checked this weekend
SORTED!!!!! To say I'm chuffed is an understatement. Top notch service as usual and the Blade actually feels like I thought it should in the first place but had a funny idea something was quite right. Apart from the ignition switch sticking when I tried to start it to go home but that sorted too after a quick blast back to Hunts, it was a pleasure to visit them again.
Put the forks back to 1 ring showing and set my sag etc to my weight. Was charged £75 in total. £25 for the fork work and £50 for the set up.
Well I'm not a happy chappy. Rode to hunts from Kais with a starting issue which had flared up once before to be told it's a sticky ignition barrel. Good squirt of something the mechanic used down the barrel and everything seemed fine. My 2 eldest children drive up to visit a few hours later so capt smug here says come see my spiffing new fireblade. Key in ignition and nothing AGAIN. Guess who's getting a phone call tomorrow.
Try the battery connections just incase they have come loose. I know Giv had a similar problem. Worth a try
