I don't normally have battery issue with the Fireblades but I have had some heated grips fitted recently and even though I have never left them on when the bike is not running, They seem to be draining the battery to the point where the bike does not want to fire up if left unused for a few days. The bike is a year old now and I wonder if it's time for a new battery. I notice that some of you on here have been going for the new livght weight Lithium Ion items. What do you reccommend?????????
I got a Lithium battery off ebay on best offer http://1000rr.co.uk/mods-upgrades-accessories-products/14303.htm#post224816 I only have a tracker but that doesn't seem to drain too much when the ignition is off. The only thing I would add is on cold days I turn on the lights whilst rolling the bike out of the garage just to get the battery warm before cranking the motor. Due to the higher CCA it starts much better now.
The battery should have at least a 3/5 year life, if its draining because it has an unwanted load attached (grips?) a new battery will drain also. You need to test it. disconnect the live terminal and put a meter in the circuit, that will tell you if you have a fault. If your not sure any auto-electrician will do that. Or disconnect the grips at the battery and see if that sorts it. Do the grips have a variable heat control combined with the switch or do they have something like Heat,1,2,3. Mike.
honda battery are the high quality battery you can buy (not intended for li-po units) 1 years of life is DEF tooo short if bike is well manteined i have original battery in my 1000 04! you connect positive underkeys? or direct on battery?
Mine does the same using heated under jacket. I use a trickle charger all winter to boost the battery back up between rides.
The grips were fitted by my local Honda Centre and are wired directly to the battery as per manufactures instructions. I suspect the grips are the problem because the bike was not doing it before they were fitted.
Ok ! I have never had to tricle charge any of my Blades in the past. Seems a nuisance if I have to start doing so, just because I have heated grips!
If the grips are the only thing that's altered, and the problem has occurred, it's pointing that way. disconnect them and see. If the problem goes away, it's back to the dealer. Good luck, Mike.
Of course.....it has just occurred to me that these grips can be switched on simply by pressing the control panel whether or not the key is in the ignition ! They also have an auto cut out feature when the battery drains beyond a certain point. Other people go into my garage sometimes!!! It would be very easy for a curious person to switch them on and leave them on !!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! I wonder !!
I think we may be onto something here, mischievous fingers can account for many things! I have 16 of them to contend with. and 4 thumbs.
