    Any domestic alarm fitters/expects within our midst ?

    I have fitted a wireless alarm this weekend, exactly to the maker’s instructions, everything happened as it should. The control/siren box beeped when it should, flashed when it should, all the PIR’s and door contacts flashed and talked to the control/siren box, everything has said hello when it should.

    The testing was fine, LED lit up when the contacts were pulled apart, the LED lit up when the doors are opened so they are talking to each other and communicating with the control/siren box when the test buttons are pressed.

    But this is when the door contacts are having a bit of a laugh at my expense. When the system is armed and twenty second wait period is over (ie alarm on) open either of the doors and nothing, not even a squeak, beep or sod all from the alarm box……but then shut the door and all hell is let loose including the male horses in the field running round like the gelding man has just turned up.

    I have pawed over the instructions like an old copy of Knave and I can’t see or find anything wrong, the only thing I think I might have done is power the control/siren box after fitting to the wall rather than before. I can’t see what difference that would make as it goes into “learning mode for 3 hours to give you time to fit everything.

    Any bright ideas anyone……thank you in advance.

    Sorry mate, don't do Alarms, too much myther.

    I have been told by other Sparks that do, to steer clear of Wireless units, wired is always better.

    Just applying a bito logic to this, have you connected the Door contacts to a NO contact (Normally Open) rather than a NC contact (Normally Closed)?

    Thanks for the kind reply Sinewave. There are no contact options, they are what they are, a battery powered unit and a magnetic block.

    The alarm isn’t for the house it’s a standalone unit for the new man cave.

    It did occur to me that most domestic doors open inwards but the doors I have fitted the contacts fitted to open outwards, meaning the magnets might be moving the senor the wrong way, so I tried fitting them either way round and it still happens. So I doubt it’s that. Besides either way the LED lights up to confirm contact is being broken. If I remove the cover on the unit the tamper spring switch sets the alarm off straight away.

    Its got me completely flummoxed and I cant find anything on line to give me any pointers.

    Have you set one of the doors for entry/exit thats why it is triggering on the second opening.;)
    If not try arming with the exit door open.

    Eureka Sinewave………You might just have hit on something here mate;

    You might just have the answer to the problem;
    You can’t preset any of the contacts as the ‘entry/exit door’……….but………I have mounted the key pad in the house, not in the garage. Meaning when I arm the system all the doors are closed, wait 30 seconds or so, open the garage side door, nothing happens, close side door and I am sure when I opened it again the siren kicked off. The main garage doors when I tested it seemed to do nothing on opening but kick off when closed, however this means I have already opened the side door to get in.
    It’s a bit late now to start mucking around with it; I will give the poor horses a heart attack,

    But…..you might just have come up with a possible solution to the problem. Thank you, I will give it a try, arm the system, open and close garage side door within the twenty seconds. Give it a minute to settle itself then open the side or main doors and see what happens.
    Thank you.

    it looks a simple enough fit David but I guess you must select which contacts you want to allow you to get to the panel......which means all the others will instant alarm when operated........

    The purists might want to disagree but doesn’t this just go to prove why 1000rr.co.uk is such a fantastic forum.

    Having tried int he past to fit a wireless alarm in my house and my mums. Found them to be pretty poor. And tried a few makes too.

    So wired all the way and no issues with my wired 1

    Got the alarm system up and working after the Alarm company tech department called me back this morning. Also a big thanks to Sinewave and Repsol Rob yesterday evening, it was just as you guys suggested, ticks and gold stars all round boys.
