So me and my dear friend paul the 6th fancied a new year ride out today...

So I cleaned my leathers down of the mud from Oulton Park and set off for pauls..

    Hi paul!!

    Paul.jpg

Off we went to helmsley planning to do the Yorkshire TT so paul can show me a jump "just like the mountain"

Stopped for a piccy and a pasty as you do..

(Paul's face may now be permanently like this)

Off we shot towards stokesley pushing on and keeping an eye out for piglets. Out of a nice left hander, winding it on (my speedo read 60ish) following behind paul the 6th when BAM!!! A split second flap of wings then a huge hit and massive cloud of feathers! How he kept the bike upright and came to a stop I have no idea, had he been a lad my size he would have crashed for sure.

We both came to a slidey stop and he fell off the bike obviously having almost been knocked out.

Here's the result, and a cracking photo at that-

We thought it best to ride home at this point due to paul not being able to see and feeling very sick and beaten up. If only he'd took his topbox we could have had some pheasant for tea.

Sat in A&E still full of smiles!

X-ray done and thankfully no broken bones just soft tissue damage but I'm sure paul himself will upload a picture in a couple of days, I can say he is gonna have one HELL of a shiner tomoro!! :D

Just glad my buddy is OK, watch out for them pheasants guys!!!

1 dumbass pheasant was harmed in the making of this post

Was that near the Stokesly end of the TT....I went through there a few weeks ago and there was at least 100 dead birds on the road, it's like a cliff wall on the left hand side as you ride towards chop gate from Helmsley, the road was slippery then and it was warmer so it must have been really bad now..
Must be breeding farm there somewhere...

Thats a good old shiner...did it bust his visor ???

    Very lucky chap...

Brand new arai helmet fairly unscathed, it has a peak on so we reckon the pheasant has flown into that and then the helmet has smashed paul in the face. It was just after the jump near the sun inn (i think its called?) on your right hand side. 3 or 4 corners after that...

Pheasant flew out as shown on this schematic-

Yep that was the stretch....just a bit further on was the high bank, bit of a sharp left hander....dead birds mashed into the road all over...had to drop down to about 20mph as it was deadly...
There was a guy killed on the Guisborough Whitby road a while ago by a feathered RPG....hit him in the chest....obviously he crashed but they reckon the bird strike killed him before he went down...

    Paul the 6th........DUCK....LOL

So was this a MotoCross type lid then?

Can't see how you'd sustain such localised eye damage from a standard design road helmet?

Would both fit round the cheek the same, localised damage from impact transfer from lid to face. Simple.

Just because you have a lid on, doesn't stop the impact, it just dampens it and spreads the load. Imagine the damage without it.

My bet is, no difference whatsoever over this lid or a road one, they are both designed to take impact. Just styled different? (Providing it was a decent lid?)

    Did he have goggles on?

    Good save dude.
I was hit in the chest by a blackbird, it knocked the wind out of me, and hurt like fook.
To get away with a pheasant strike is a result.
Don't forget to do the lottery ;)

Lol! Decent lid then, and offers plenty of protection over a motox lid, more full face. Did his visor smash or was it just impact and movement from the lid that busted the eye?

Cannot believe you didn't get that pheasant home... that thing deserved to be plucked, roasted, butchered and scoffed!

The visor was intact but its smashed all the paint off the side of the lid. Funny thing is paul got measured for the lid at the bike show when we did our trip jimbo so dunno why its moved and hit him?? Unless he's lost some weight over xmas... :D
