2005 blade arrived Friday. Took her out for a short run yesterday 'bout 15 miles. Parked up back home, then noted strong petrol smell from garage. Found small pool of petrol by the side-stand I note that there is a breather/overflow that ends hooked to theside-stand, buried also see another loose-ended pipe which just looks "wrong". Any advice grateful before I start stripping plastics off
Gotta get the tank lifted make sure that breather not crimped there is a nack to lowering tank and pulling that breather at the same time not hard though as its only pushed in to a t piece if leak not from there lift tank and turn key so pump primes you should see evidence of the leak but I'd say breather . I know you might not want to but if you blow through the breather if fitted correctly air should come out in a vent hole on fuel cap
Thanks for that ... I'm more worried about the pipe shown here which ends against the lower fairing - that looks wrong. I can't believe Mr Honda would design that, so gut feel is that this pipe should be attached to something at both ends ...
No it's like that mate attached to t piece at top by tank then left to leak any overflow or water from around fuel cap it's ok you can tuck it between casings and water pipe this is mine l
If I remeber right there is also another tube that goes up the side of the mid section To nowhere. Condensation in it also leaves by that pipe you marked.
Guys, just to ressurect this thread .... I HAVE A FUEL LEAK !!! I've stripped down to the tank and lifted out, about 2 thirds of the way up the breather there is a split as if the pipe was fouling or pinching on something. Would this be the cause for the whole tank to drain though? I'm in mid mechanics & monsoon atm... will report back... P.
I doubt the hole in the breather pipe is your main problem mate, the breather pipe is just that a breather to allow air into the tank as the fuel level goes down! fuel can make its was down the breather but normally only can happen when bikes on its side or upside down during crashes. There should also be a drain pipe coming from the fuel cap area to allow water or spilt fuel during filling to drain away so it doesn't cause issues. No fuel from inside the tank can get down this pipe as the fuel cap seals the fuel tank at this location. I would be more looking for either a damaged tank seams & fuel line going to the fuel rail/carbs or a damaged fuel cut off tap allowing fuel to pass through even when the bikes turned off, this can lead to fuel in cylinders (possibly causing engine to hydrolic causing engine damage!) and/or fuel in the engine oil.
The leak isn't on the tank itself is it ? There was a recall on the 'Blade for the tank leaking at the brazing where the main fuel pipe exits the tank My bike had the repair done on the recall.. Link to the recall.. Recall Details for HONDA MOTORCYCLES - CBR1000RR-6 & CBR1000RR-7
Cheers Tom, I gotta go back to Farnham Honda tomorrow with the breather pipe just to confirm they'll order the right one. I'm also taking the sheet you linked & see whet they have to say... I'll report back....
Ummm I think you may well be correct... I went into Farnham Honday yesterday to get a new breather, the guy put the microfilm gizmo on and didn't have a clue. He said I needed to bring the old one in.... I then pointed out to him that in the showroom there is an HRC 07 plate, "I'll show you on there" I said.... He still didn't get it! Although he did say there is a weld half way down the breather that contains a one way valve, I have a split between this and the top of the pipe... he reckoned this is what's causing the leak... I went home fairly optimistic but what I didn't realise is that he was a complete pillock. Went back this morning armed with my breather and some other chap made his apologies for the ejit I saw yesterday, there is no one way valve .... end result, it's booked in for Friday....
Am I right in guessing you saw the South African sounding guy? I spoke to him one day over the phone about the standard hugger that comes on the bike and he quoted £250 + went to Crowthorne honda £17 and not the first time they have got things wrong tbh

Yeah no worries, I have a possie of about 3 or 4, Loomies or Box Hill, sometimes Brighton to meet up with another crew... We'll have to make a day of it in the spring.... hopefully that round yellow thing in the sky might make an appearance...
OK, The plot thickens..... After finally getting the bike over to Farnham Honda on Friday and them saying they will ring me 'today' .. they didn't !! So I went over there Sat morning to find out what's happening. They had previously told me that the Honda recall mod had been done on mine after checking my registration on the system, when I went in Saturday - this is what they said. On the system your bike has been modified, but, when a recall modification is done they are supposed to 'punch' the serial Number plate so that also records the mod has been done, according to the serial no plate it has not been done as it isn't punched, touched or marked in anyway. I was still unclear as to what the actual problem was at this stage and they confirmed it is the same problem that the recall is supposed to fix. So they have ordered some tool/template that they will get today (Monday) to confirm whether the mod has been done. OK, I said and what if it hasn't? "Honda will cover it", good I thought... and what if it has "Down to you sir, you will need a new tank, £700.00 ish". Ok I thought, that'll be an ebay job, they said they will let me know today so off I went. This got me thinking though, If it's a repeat of the problem they are supposed to have already fixed than how come I'm liable... What if they had fixed it and didn't do it properly? I can't see how I should be liable for this and if Farnham Honda come back and tell me it's down to me then I'll be straight on the phone to Honda's customer services.. Do you agree?, what would you do?. or am I missing something here?
I would hold them to the fact that the plate hasn't been stamped so effectively it hasn't been done! And if the mod has been done and failed then Honda should be classed as at fault. Do you know where as in what dealer the mod was done last time? If it has been modded can't they show you what has been done to prove it has been done?
