This year's trip, Day 1 Calais to Vianden (Luxembourg) Day 2-4 Luxembourg > Cochem > Baden Baden B500 (Black Forest) Day 5 Home Seems a reasonable trip ? Any route suggestions appreciated. Thanks
You'll love it!!! Germany is great. Have a look on the wheeltrax tours (think that's what it's called) website and look at their itinerary they have some great routes and ideas.
Seems a familiar selection of places to visit rewy Only come in from the Calais side once before to Luxembourg, however we came up from the south of Lux from Metz. but the run into Vianden from Bastogne on the N15 is a good 30 odd miles of nice sweepers and then onto cr320 at Esch sur Sure for some scenic stuff. Esch is tiny but has a decent cafe and is a popular stopping point for bikes if you have time. From Vianden head south to Metz, then south east towards Rhinau on the D955. You get a free car ferry across the Rhine there into Germany. Black Forest on your doorstep - choose where you want to go after that. I use the "best biking roads" website and "greatest roads" iphone app to pick out potential routes. Handy when you get to somewhere you've never heard of by mistake
Rewy, I'll reply properly later but I should be able to offer some advice that may help based on my 2 trips out there. Can't disagree there Pete! At Vianden, head a few miles east towards Neuerburg and you're in the Eifel and just a short hop from the Mosel river. Beautiful area. Head further East to Cochem and you get this: Tempting, isn't it?
done that road and if am right end up at Mosel river then stop for a brew in Cochem the roads a so good around there you think your on track
Steve, it was a pleasure to chat to you at the weekend! However our conversation has me thinking about squeezing in a weekend riding to the Eifel before I go to the TT in May. I'll add any info/tips to this thread if I go ahead with it, if that's ok. The Mrs has already given me the thumbs up

steve, looks good mate. only a suggestion, but to make the most of your monday id do thiis http://goo.gl/maps/deRQv takes in the mosel river road, brunch stop at cochem (very nice indeed) and then the b48 down to baden baden. circa 250 miles so nice easy day! be in baden baden early afternoon to go and play on the b500 - trust me, you'll want to!!
Jimbo speaks the truth Steve. Cochem is stunning but very touristy. The roads around there are awesome though. When I was in Cochem in 2012 we went to a cafe and the waiter picked up our crash helmets from the table and put them away for safekeeping while we ate our meal and returned them afterwards! Amazing hospitality. I like your Wed/Thurs planning. You get to ride through the BF on both days. The lower part of the B500 and Lake Titisee should be a highlight. I wish I had done that in 2013. It's on my hit list though Steve, got your text but unable to reply as Vodafone is playing up round here. In answer to your question, I used Breakdown Cover - Car & Motorcyle Roadside Assistance and Recovery for my euro breakdown cover. About £22 for 5 days. Can't complain as they delivered when I needed it.
Thanks rob! The lake is lovely.... We stopped there for lunch, great roads, and less busy away from bf tourists!! Wish I had the pic of Russ, stigging it out lol Have to find it http://1000rr.co.uk/touring/11367.htm
Whereabouts in Vianden are you stopping mate? Can recommend eating at the outside terrace restaurant of the Hotel Petry, excellent pizzas and pastas, and views of the river.
Best of luck for your trip Steve, safe journey and hope the sun shines for you. You'll love it! Oh, take plenty of pictures mate
I tried to do that map but the google maps has changed and couldn't find where to get the link to copy!? Remember - south of cochem on the river road and pick up the b48. Will take you pretty much to Baden Baden
