Hi Muff .I had this conversation this morning with a tyre dealer. He says there won't be any discounting of the Pr3s until Michelin have got the feed back on the potential sales of the 4s .He was creaming himself on the Bridgestone T30s saying this is what his life long mate Ron Haslam uses at Donnington and says Leon did a lap of the circuit on a standard Fireblade on the T30s and as he has to buy his tyres ,he is looking for good in the wet as well as dry and they have to last a long time as well. Price up here to loose wheels fitted and balanced is T30. Is ?246.00 and the PR 3 is £ 235 all inc .
Fwr are doing a deal on pr3's mike. Don't know how much but was on their site.... The Bridgestone are meant to be very good, but in know a dude whose done quite a lot of miles on them and the old 023's and he prefers the old model??? Ron has to think about £££ so that's why he uses them, but I'm sure they are fine for 95% of us on track... As said seen Dave and Russ go well in fast groups on pr3's so all good tyres.....
Cheers Giv. My reason for choosing Michelin is that they are supposed to be really good from cold, the PR4 even quotes having good grip in freezing air temps. It's not so much wet weather performance that appeals to me the most (although handy), but the colder times of year as that's what caught me out in Nov. and I'll swap between them my summer tyres.
Personally mate I think your going the complete wrong way then.... As I think the harder nature of them means they need a bit longer to warm up!! That would be my only comment on the 3's.... But once up to temp they are very grippy. Also why I think folk might not think they are grippy as they are not as sticky as real super sticky tyres from the off But your right, always found Michelin get to temp quick.... Maybe just ease off for the first few miles!! Lol
The 3's are perfect for all year and cold / wet weather.... But from your post you seem to want something super grippy from the off? Unfortunately I don't think this exists mate this time of year... Everything should be treated with caution... Just need to adjust your riding a little IMO.
My head tells me to get the PR3's all the time, but there is only 1 thing that is stopping me from getting them.
The tread pattern is weird looking. I know it's trivial, but it really does take a lot of getting used to.
I think you just hit the nail on the head. I've not ridden since coming off and it's really put me off my game. Even while out walking the dogs earlier I could feel the lack of grip when crossing the wet roads, which makes me wonder how I'm gonna get past tip toe'ing round on 2 wheels, or if I'll end up waiting a few more month for some decent weather (although that would mean a bigger gap between riding). How the hell we managed to keep the pace up in Scotland earlier this year I'll never know All I can say Colin is that they look a lot better vertical than they would horizontal. That should justify the interestingly strange tread pattern
I'm not doubting that they perform, but I'm sure the Sportsmarts will perform the same, though they won't quite last as long. Having said that I've got around 3k miles on mine just now and still going strong.
Haven't tried sportsmarts so would be hard to comment on them, sure they are good as well and possibly more aesthetically pleasing
Everyone gets diff miles. My sportsmarts lasted sub 2k... Getting 5k out of pr'3s.... Amazing gain in miles imo And I'd actually say the pr'3s are better for fast road riding. What ever the weather!!
