Bike was collected today. Got a phone call about 5pm. Engine is out and is being stripped ready to send full details (parts list to Honda). They connected the ABS to the diagnostics to check the error code from the flashing ABS light - turns out it was due to low battery voltage!? They have to do the full check on the ABS yet and report. I cant complain about the speed of movement so far!
I have just checked my bike as I was worried after reading your thread, 300ml in 1400 miles so I guess I am all right, sorry I know this does not help you I am so glad they are being proactive in sorting your bike out, at least the weather is rubbish and you wont miss it to much and you will get it back better than ever ready for a year of fun and the group trackday ? Sorry just for myself and maybe others, did you get the oil pressure warning light once you lost a certain amount of oil or did you just notice as you checked it out on a regular basis. Would be nice to know if it did start burning it at an alarming rate you would know before it was to late
I think that's a mistake, their acceptable usage limit is 1l per 1000 miles, unless you can quote different from somewhere reliable? (In the US, I think they quote 1 quart per 1000 miles (1 quart = 0.95 litres)
Don't rely on the warning light. I've run two (I know, I know) engines dry with no warning from the "warning" light!
Cheers Jamie! No oil light. This is the first time i had checked the oil. I had only done 650 miles and was not expecting to see anything other than the oil at the correct level. The oil did not register on the dip stick at all. the service guy at the bike shop said he put 700ml of oil in. Oh, and the group track day sounds good. I will read up on the details.
well may I join the club, first time I checked the oil in 2k I know But it never used any oil for the first 2.2k well I'm about 5 mil under the max. dipped when cold and then again after warning up and letting to cool. not topped it up yet. but will repoprt back when I know how much I've had to add
I think I'm just gonna dump my oil and refill with the correct amount after reading this thread . I can stick to changing the oil every 2k miles then Honda service , my service , Honda service , my service etc etc
Doesn't sound like you've used too much Remal. The guy at Pidcocks Honda told me the aim for mine is to get get down to 0.5l / 3-4000 miles.
I went on the very first PDi course that was available after launch of the RR8 but before the public got there hands on them. i was advised (and still have it written down somewhere) that its 1l per 1000miles, even at that most dealers would take a good hard look.
Being brutally honest here, providing the engine is never run dry of oil it will never do it any harm, thank the lord we dont have chocolate BMW gearboxes, chocolate BMW cams, exploding zx10r valves, or snappy GSXR frames.......and lets not mention the R1 eh!

I hear what your saying JM1. It doesnt do any damage, but is it acceptable? What if your brand new Tyres deflated constantly. It doesn't harm them and you can keep inflating them. Doesn't seem right though does it? Perhaps I'm being too picky?
sometimes people dont realise that these things will become more regular in the pursuit of more power/lighter weight. as ive said, thank the lord you havent got a bmw that chews cranks or snaps camshafts, or a zx10r that shreds valves, or an rsv4 that splits its rods, or a gsxr that has a frame you worry about snapping on regular occasion. need i go on? In reality, the amounts of oil you are burning are tiny, yes its great that the dealers are looking into it, and im hearing that the prime cause of the problem is rectified in the 2012 model, but i wouldnt hesitate buying a 2008/09/10 blade because a few folk think they smoke like a chimney. they should try running a big bang R1!! Steve,not picky, but maybe not fully aware of the lack off effects this has, dont give into the serial sensationalism from MCN. they cant help it if they are all ghey and like pink R1's!!

oww just reading and says in the manual do not screw in dip stick when checking oil. I have been. maybe I need some more oil
