Am just about to change the oil and filters and in the past have used stock filters and Castrol power 1 racing, but am looking at the other options this time! Oil I'm looking at silkolene pro4 instead of Castrol A K&N oil filter Toss up between a K&N and piper cross air filters Wondered if anyone had any other options or opinions on the above choices? Thanks
I serviced the RR6 last week and went for BMC air.. 9k miles and the originals were frankly manky! Oil and filter standard..
Ive only ever used power one, so have no complaints. Is there a gain to be had by changing from what I believe Honda recommend?
I have that same issue.. when the bike is just started, and I go to pull away, it wants to snap the gearbox in half going into first
You have all the aces SPS so you can't go wrong I have used the Castrol Racing one and the Silkolene pro both are red ,both look the best oil in the world but once in the bike you would have to be Rossi at the very least to know the differance.
I've used silkolene Pro 4 in my Blade a couple of years back and honestly didn't like it. The gear change wasn't as slick and I ended up changing it before needed. Weird because I found it better in my GSXR. Another oil I rate Putoline oil. I found this even better in the GSXR than the Silkolene.
Thanks Giv, am sure I read on one of the threads about the pro4 making a difference a little to the clunk when selecting first gear
Chain adjustment can be a big factor on this. I'm not saying that yours is not set correctly, but it is worth a check.
It's best to let the oil get up to temp first, and this is one of the things that you will notice from cold.
Ive used castrol racing 10 30 exclusively (use 10 40 during the summer) and change every 4-5k. I also use OEM oil filter and BMC road air filter. I get the first gear chunk but this is a honda thing. My Blade does use between 250 - 350 mls of oil per 1kmiles worse when I sit in traffic. I am considering changing to Motul or silkolene to see if the oil consumption changes though..
I use castrol power one racing , K&N or genuine oil filter ,K&N air filter . hold the clutch lever in for a few seconds when selecting first gear , stop that clunk .
I use Motul 7100 & OEM Filter for the Road Bike. Motul 7100 4T - Demon Tweeks And the Daddy for the Track Bike which is a favorite Oil of the TDR Forum lads along with a K&N Filter. Motul 300V Factory Line - Demon Tweeks
I wouldnt recommend a piper cross filter if your road riding . I had one and it let grit thru so needed new valves and re seating plus throttle bodies needed a good clean
a few pictures from when I changed my standard Honda filters for the BMC "Race" filters.. The air box was full of sand! 9k miles.. when you see pics like these, make you wonder if we should be changing / cleaning out the air filters more often..
your right Kirkwall.. although I change the Oil / Filer every year (2000 miles average) had never bothered to do the air filter.. didn't think it would need it!
Re the first gear clunk thing......its like changeing a set of railway points on my old buell when cold but a few good throttle blips once warmed up and flick the clutch in and out a few times ......no probs. Was suprised at how much of a clunk there was on the blade when I first got it but same procedure helps.............and the neighbours chuffing love it.....YEAH MAN!!!
Your pictures scared the be-jesus out of me as I have the 'road' bmc version on my 59 hrc. Done about 10k since I fitted but thankfully when I checked it was 'sterile' in there, absolutely clean. I've wondered about the BMCs as the seals are quite hard compared to the soft OEMs so potentially let it some dirt. Surprised that your race version let in dirt through, thought they only reduce air flow when dirty
