Im stripping down my rearsets to powder coat them matt black to match the frame!been quoted £25 to prep them!blasting them.and £45 to powder coat them. so i've them mostly apart but wondering how,or can I take this bit apart as there is a rubber that im sure you cant leave there as it would melt in the oven.
Si! I see you left the top of the gear selector not done beside the gear selector rod is that because you couldn't get that apart ?
If i can remember, i THINK there's a cir clip... i can't be sure though. I know i soaked all rubbers in warm solution of fairy liquid and water, and i re-used the rubbers.
If you de-grease the rear sets yourself using a bit of paraffin, and dismantle them completely, saving all grommets and rubbers and cir clips, it's just a matter of reassembly when you get them back. I used these guys: Triple 'S' Powder Coating | Prices not the cheapest, but after nearly 3 years, they still look brand new.

Sounds quite expensive to me mate. I recently had handlebars and forks of a bmx powder coated mat black recently at a cost of £25 to blast and coat. I would shop about if I were you.
Grant, they are ilmberger carbon protectors. To be honest, although fab, not as good a quality as the gbmoto carbon I have on rest of the bike.
So im being asking around and it appears there is a pin holding these in! can anyone shed some light on this
Toy, I just spotted this thread and I'm sorry to tell you but it looks like you can't strip that little ball joint down without ruining it! Essentially the rod that's comming out with the rubber surround has a ball shaped end that is crimped into a recess, the boot is there to stop water, grit or mud and so on getting inside causing damage at which point the ball joint gets wobbly and causes gear selection issues. Looking at the parts catalogue backs up what I am saying too as the ball joints come prebuilt with the foot lever end and the splined lever that goes onto gear selector shaft. A possible answer for those parts tho could be to mask off the rubber boots and spray the metalwork with stonechip paint and then painting over with Matt finish paint to give the desired finish. That is basically what I done with my rear sets as I was worried about the baking and ruining plastic bushes in my setup but I also masked off the parts of the pegs where my feet would rub the paint or powder coating off so I ended up with a two tone black with silver peg ends which I think worked out really well.
