http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=261385288261 has anybody ever broken a bike and sold all the parts instead of selling the bike as 1. Is there any profit in doing things this way? was thinking about doing it with a bike like the 1 posted above
if you can sell the parts there is going to be more in it but also more fuss. And also depends if you get the interest and a bidding war on parts if you sell at a auction site I know many kit car builders who want a ltr bike engine for trackday cars etc.. and see they go for 2-3k on Ebay.
We break bikes and cars bikes as Martin says you have your stuff thats flys out . Then stuff your stuck with but you will always sell it
Yes I think I remeber something about that Most performance parts seem to get snapped up straight away so I might keep looking and see if anything with potential comes up
It's not the road to riches some would have you believe. Things to be aware of... Always buy at the 'right' price...seems obvious but you'd be surprised how many let their emotions get the better of their common sense and spend over the odds for the staock they're gonna break...do the maths....carefully. Ebay fees....they can be a profit killer. Buyers...they are mostly great...but some turn into a pain in the ar5e over next to nothing...factor in the cost of those returns. Logistics...posting a motor or a pair of wheels off takes ages to sort....factor this time into your business plan. The good sh!t sells 10 times quicker than the bad sh!t....once you've sold the 'desirable' and 'in demand' stuff, you're gonna be left with loads of almost un sellable left overs....plan what you're gonna do with it. The Taxman....DO NOT think you will escape his clutches....sooner or later he'll cotton on and when he does, he'll arrive on your doorstep with a whole world of financial pain. You need loads of space...once you've broken half a dozen bikes, you'll be out of it in a normal domestic garage. And there's the less obvious stuff....your home insurance will become invalid as soon as you start trading...you need to tell them and upgrade. If you go in with yer eyes open then there is a margin to be made. Good luck
ive done it and made some good money. BUT you have to by the right bike. i was selling yamaha lc parts years ago and some of the prices were shocking. was constantly in and out the local post office though.
I stipped my 2003 R6 racebike in october. I wass asking for 3500€ for a lot job, so bike and all reserve pieces, which was a lot. In the end I ended up selling 70% here in Blegium for about 3800€, but was still left with the race frame, wheels, engine subframes, clocks, petrol tank which I took over to england and left with a mate to flog on ebay, so far the subframes, wheels and a few other things have been sold, but got the engine and frame still, the stuff sold brought in another 600€, so if the engine and frame sells now then I would have made more than 1500€ more than selling it as a lot job...... Still got the odd small crap here in the garag but will just bin that or give it away to someone for free
I am seriously tempted to try but only if I can find the right bike at the right price. Would the tax man really come after me just for stripping 1 bike
I doubt it. I think it would be more if you were doing it as a business. If you're working and paying your tax through work and buy the odd bike to strip, then you should be fine. It's when you give up work to do it and he sees money in your bank, but no tax going in he'll come a sniffin.
I should be fine then. Worked 39hrs + since I was 18 and certainly wont stop. It is just as much a hobby as a money making idea
