I Have been reading all the hype about the SP.

My question is what do I/we need to do to our bikes to upgrade them to the same spec? And which bits would be worth doing?

I know I/we would need the Brembo's & Ohlins but what else?

Are the engine internals different? What other subtle differences are there?

I dont read all the bike magazines so maybe there is a review i should read that would tell me all this. Please let me know if there is.

Looking forward to finding out what bits I need;)

    Ozz

Not 100% but the engine is blueprinted. The pistons are weighed, inlet and exhaust ports polished. Nothing major that most of us will not notice the few extra HP. Main change is the suspension and brakes I think.

They boast how they like the rider to have control of the bike so no electronic aids are added. But why do they use the electronic abs system, surely that takes away the feel for the brakes?

It would be nice if they added a quick shifter!

I think the biggest attraction for the sp is there are only 170 in the United Kingdom.. As above main differences are ohlins rear txt shock. Ohlins nix forks, brembo m4 calipers, blueprinted engine with balanced pistons and fancy conrods,( although this gives an increase in power it will make the bike a hell of a lot smoother. They are already really smooth tho) lighter hrc subframe, one piece billet top yoke, wheels are lighter, different fuel cap lol, the seat cowl is different and the colour scheme. They aren't sold out tho yet which I'm shocked by. Padgetts rang me today asking if I'd got sorted with one as they have 1 available.. Any mods on an already awesome blade will only make it better.. Lets be honest tho they are all top notch.. Long live the blade

Rear subframe is lighter and the footpegs have been moved for better riding position

Not a lot then really. A good map. Bit of lightening here and there some. Is that real ohlins etc hmmm. I don't think so. It's like the triumph it's not proper proper ohlins gear. Be better to get bpf version forks re worked and buy a ttx ?

If the rear sets have moved does that mean the 2013 exhausts won't fit or does it not make a difference

You might be wrong about the ohlins as it is a TTX rear shock, honda wouldn't put an ohlins forks on that work worse than the Showa BPF

Isn't there some frame modes also around the head stock area?

The ABS systems ECU has been 're-mapped' after feed back from the TT Legends Team amongst others!

I think the headers are slightly different martin. They have all changed on the 2014 blade slightly

Very true but not sure if that come across as I was trying to say it. Time will tell when someone has it set up by a suspension company and they have a look inside /pass judgement etc on the quality of build

I got to see the SP blades down at Grantham Honda the other day and OMG they are flipping stunning!! They had a non-ABS still available and if only I had the money I would snap their arm off for it.

Sad fact is I can't afford one as Garden/Bathroom/kitchen and living room take priority over toys right now. I had 20 years spoiling myself but now got to be happy with what I have got.

If you are lucky enough to be getting one good luck as you have worked hard for it!! Enjoy

I wonder if they had the issue where all the pressure at the lever is lost ?

As stunning as it is I still would pick up a 2010/11 model with low miles and put 8k into that and see that I can come up with.

Obviously the engine mods are not going to be cost effective on any pre 14 blade or the frame strengthening etc but shocks and brembos are easy however SP brembos are the same piston size as std callipers not true M4 34/34 so will ttx shock etc be up there with off the shelf kit ? Which might sound like I'm slagging it off .. I'm not just wander if they have had to cut corners to reach the target price

I think... Hope... You can make a blade as good if not better than the std SP but I am fully aware it won't be an SP thus never be quite as good and will be a simple wannabe in most SP owners eyes, I suspect a few will mod the SP into an amazing blade !

I was tempted to change but I like the Repsol and got a good deal on it so thought id just add a few choice bits and see where I end up :)

I still want an SP they look amazing

That should come in very handy on track . Std abs just wasn't good for track usage. An adjustable system like on other superbikes.. That's what we need :)

That makes it sound like I dont like the sp. I do, I think its a bloody beautiful machine but for me to be cost effective I think you would end up with a better bike by buying a cheap 2nd hand bike and modify it. For 8k you could add ohlins forks and shock, lightweight wheels, brembo m/c with m4's and braided hoses, full exhaust system with pc5 adjustable rear sets and a quickshifter and that is buying everything brand new, buy 2nd hand and you could still have 1-1.5k left.

I got a new blade and have done all that minus forks and wheels... And I'm just at the point I could of bought an SP

Agree Fez but we both know an SP will hold its value and the normal blade won't !

But good bits don't lose a lot of value and you will always sell ! So swings and roundabouts really

I like your idea plus its fun making it yours
