Got my very first track experience coming up in April at Castle Combe (Freebie through work) I consider myself to be a fairly inexperienced rider ,i had a DT 125 when I was 17, messed around a bit on an RD 350 YPVS (without passing my test ) when I was 18, then lost a couple of close friends to motorcycle accidents. It wasn't til I turned 40 that the spark was reignited, I passed my test two years ago bumbled about on a drz 400 sm for a few months, then bought myself a cbr 600f, great bike that I was very happy with, but somewhere in the back of my mind i always wanted the acceleration that leaves a cheesey grin on your face and gets you whooping for joy inside your crash helmet In March 2013 I bit the bullet and bought a brand spanking 13 plate Blade (black the fastest colour of course) I think I developed quite well during the summer but would be the first to admit I still have a great deal to learn, still have the chicken strips to prove it. I am very reluctant to take the blade and chuck it down the track, not saying I will but theres always the chance of getting carried away seeing other riders leaving you for dead or just plain old exceeding your capabilities, as you'd expect I had problems getting Insured and it sure as hell doesn't cover me for track days So what are my options are there any companys that hire bikes for trackdays ? I could scrape together a few quid for a track bike but what if I don't get into it etc etc ... Any suggestions please chaps,chapesses
Just pick up an old cbr 600 for 1k, it will cost you that if you bin a hire one anyway! Or I think small boys are supposed to be a reasonable hire
If you can pick a cheap cbr600 up for a grand, you'll have just as much fun on it and if by some miracle you don't take to it, you'll easily get back what you paid for it! But be prepared for getting bitten by the bug........'cos then you're in for some serious expense!!!!!!
If you don't like it not a chance well there is I suppose but chuck the road fairings in the loft tart some race fairings on and have fun
Take your Blade on Coombe, I took mine on it when I had only owned it for 4 months and had a similar level of experience to you. It's not really a track hence why they promote it as a circuit. It's all right hand bends and pretty easy to get to know quickly. I didn't know how quick the bike was until I took it on there, nearly 130mph down the longest 'straight' flat out in second all the way. You won't even really get into third, you'll be in second pretty much all the way around. It is very good fun but I did start to get a bit over confident at one point and overcooked a corner and shat myself as I approached it going far too fast, I managed to stay off the grass though. God knows how!
Matt is a top lad,turns out great bikes and looks after you all day (fuel,warmers,bike on stands etc)he's a quick bugger aswell when he gets out on track.
is the straight only 100m long? anyway, I would either take it easy on the blade as it's good to ride on a bike that you know, you will get to know it even better, if you enjoy it you can always pick up a cheapo trackbike for your second time..... what am I saying, IF you like it?????? of coarse you will!!!!!!! You will buy a trackbike and stands, then tyre warmers, all the stuff, a van for transport, you will live on bread and water during the winter, tell the family now that theres no more holidays until you decide your too old ( about 60 ), that your evenings and weekends are booked up until then as well and that theres no more shopping money for the missus
