poor mad. i did the same as i store my bike in the living room while i was working abroad. frankly sounds you talked to an cretin at mce. garage locks are useless and provide next to no protection compared to a front / back door security lock. also you could be having sweet dreams & not hear a thing about what's going on in your shed/ garage. bottom line is in my view and a number of insurers, it is more difficult to steal a bike from inside a house than it is in a garage (like for like) hope things will be easier for you at the next renewal
i'm insured currently with bennets called to update my address this morning £30 admin charge! Asked for a quote to changed bike to SP and they told me if I insured the SP within a couple of days there would be no additional admin fee but leave it longer that a couple of days and there would be new admin fee and policy increase! So i asked for a quote on SP to be declined by my current insurer! They then went and ran a fresh new quote for me and quoted me £1600 to insure an SP with a fresh policy! I'm only £180 for my 2011 blade! :-0 On the bright side if I cancell my policy to start a new they'll refund me £26!
Tesco value beef burgers (with added horse meat) used to be the cheapest by far... but that's because they were shit, tasted bad and in fact didn't contain beef. Bad example maybe but things are cheap for a reason, and MCEs practices are well documented. They will listen to everything you tell them, then do whatever they can to give you the cheapest quote even if it involves things you have not said. When my paperwork came through (after they had taken payment) they had added various aftermarket alarms and immobilisers, made up my no claims to add on a few years, got my age wrong etc. When I called them they said I had said it all, and then confirmed when they read back my policy... all of which was lies (which was proven by requested all recorded correspondence)... in the end it took 3+ months to get ALL my money back, and only after getting the FSA and FOS involved with the help of MCN. Avoid like the plague
Whilst i would normally agree with you i can promise you there are worse bike insurance companies out there and can also say that i have used MCE in the past and have never had issues with them even when ive made a claim. Yes i have heard horror stories about MCE's practises but if my experiences have been good then im ok with them..... Heres a good review site thats independent, as you can see there are much worse than MCE.. Motorcycle Insurance Reviews of 2013 & 2014 at Review Centre
I've been with Swinton Bikes for a few years now. I pre-acknowledge that they're a bunch of shysters who'll try everything in the book to wriggle out of paying me in the event of a claim, just like all insurers. I therefore take a pretty large excess and accept the fact that I'm basically paying for a piece of paper that says I'm insured.
Hey Nick this is highly classified state information. However since you are a 1000rr forum you have clearance I will share it with you just went past 60. Guys, Sorry to hear abt your bad experiences. Well I have gone with MCE based mostly if not purely on their price. So far touch wood the admin phase has gone ok. Time will tell! Obviously you what you get is related to what you pay what. I cannot understand how they can bundle so much in the policy: breakdown recovery, legal assistance, 6 months european cover, cover for kit... although some of them are very restricted like the RAC cover....Read the small prints
Well a belated Happy 60th Birthday bonjo. I hear what you say and I think I'll be going with MCE too. 'BoroRich' puts his finger on it when he says that you're, '.......basically paying for a piece of paper that says I'm insured.'. The reviews in this posting: Motorcycle Insurance Reviews of 2013 & 2014 at Review Centre by 'Mad Matt' make interesting reading too. The authenticity of some of them does seem a bit 'questionable' though. Nick.
Your right nicko, i wouldn't mind betting that some reviews are suspect but certainly not all and what i do like about this review site is the fact that a representative from MCE answers all negative reviews giving the name of a manager to contact..... I most definitely agree that your just paying for a piece of paper...
Thanks guys for your good wishes. Nowadays, I tend to forget abt this kind of things; got fed up with the cost of candles on birthday cakes years ago In this day & age where hamburgers are called beefburgers and should be really called horse-burgers, people can be very helpful, polite and pleasant when it comes to taking your money! The true test is when it comes to paying out!

Incidentally I think you lot daaarn saaarf must get quite a loading. I remember when my ex girlfriend moved from Weybridge up to the supposed crime-ridden hell hole that is Teesside and her car insurance went down
