Don't do it. I would wait and I'm not normally that fussed about reg plate, but if I was buying second had, I'd rather have a 14 plate.

Assuming these will be the only SP's made, I don't think the reg will make a blind bit of difference.

Got to agree with Kev & Sinewave , think about the resale value at least
We can get some real nice days in March, I'm sure you if you put your mind to it you could easily cover 1000 miles before your track session.

Don't know if it's going to give you any piece of mind but quite a few years ago I did a track day at Ron Haslam race school and I remember we got onto the subject if they ran their fleet of Honda motorcycles from new, I was told they were flogged from 0 miles and never caused any issues.
Seriously if you think how many times the pistons and valves etc have done their job in even 100 miles let alone 600 miles

I'm a firm believer if you run a engine in fast and hard you get a quick one

    Yep, agree with Andy.

I've never really been over cautious with running a bike in as even the manufacturers aren't bothered about it either!

    Think about it?

How many 'New Release' Bike tests have you read in the Magazines where the OEM has invited 20 journalists from all over the world to some race track to thrape their latest and greatest around track for a day with about 100 miles only on each bike?

The Journo's mention it regularly that the engines will improve with miles but by the same token it's no detriment either otherwise the OEM's would ensure all Test Bikes were fully run before Test Day.

For normal everyday bikes I would agree with most here that it would be better having the newer plate but for an SP I don't think it would make any difference at all. A later plate has no impact on the resale price of LE machines such as the RC30, RC45 or NR750 after all.
As for riding hard from new, again I agree in most cases it won't harm the engine, but I do not believe most here would treat their own £16k baby to anything other than kid gloves during run in. Despite the fact we know it would be ok.

I still think the ltd 170 is just ltd too colour, there will be another 170 in other colours etc they have just worded it well so people rush out and buy while they can
