For simple plug and play usage the optimate to USB socket is by far the simplest method of getting a charging socket! Plus u already have charging socket wired to your bike. I setup a single waterproof cig socket onto my bike and rigged it up through a fused 3 way relay that is ignition fed so only works when ignition is switched on, have one output going to a volt meter stuck on top of dash(had rectifier issues before so using volt meter to keep an eye on charging system) a second output is going to the cig socket that lives under the seat area. I have a third output spare which might end up being used for a set of heated grips (didn't like cold hands during Scotland tour) All in the system set me back about a tenner and means no chance of battery going flat from forgetting to unplug stuff when stopping off. I also setup a similar relay system to colinbr's blackbird to run his heated grips!
As you already have an Optimate Charger connection Niko it's even easier then! The USB lead just plugs straight in where the Charger lead goes in so all you have to do is run the lead to where you want the outlet. As per the previous Pic I have mine zip tied to the LHS mirror bolt bracket inside my fairing so I can connect the TomTom and use an iPhone Charger inside the Tank Bag. If you want to run to the same point I'd re-route the lead to the Batt so it comes out of the triangular hole further back so it's pointing downwards then run the USB lead out of the other and under the Tank cover to the Dash as in this Pic.
Well with all due respect sinewave (btw, don't you have a more human handle mate?) given that you claim to be a 'sparks' your installation looks a bit of a mess don't you think?. With wires sticking out, and, FGS, cable-tied to a fairing bracket, I mean; really? Admit it you is actually a carpenter I have had one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400488329201?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) hard-wired into the fairing of my R1100s since I bought it. It's neat, well insulated, water-proof, accepts a USB adapter and, because it's rigidly mounted, you can plug stuff in using only one hand. My plug was a temporary install because no sooner I bought the bike, last April, we had a fortnights snow and salted roads so it stood in the shed for a month and I didn't want a flat battery. BTW, Call me 'Nick', OK ?
Accessibility is key mate! The connection at the side is there simply so it can be swapped out with the Optimate when the Bikes garaged without removing seats or panels etc, it also is all cable tied up 'behind the scenes' so nothing flops out or moves, what you see in the Pic is exactly how it stays when being ridden. The USB connection at the front is about the only accessible place available which doesn't interfere with the bikes operation or instruments. I shall look forward to your improved fitting method!
I found a 12v cigarette lighter socket insulated slides very niceley down the headstock tube if you take out the blanking cap, this means you dont have wires hanging from under seat to your items, you can put items in tank bag and no trailing wires.

Dude as you know just bought my Blade. I have a Garmin zumo 660 Satnav. What brackets can I get for it to fit my bike ??
does anyone have one of these usb sockets for an oxford maximiser instead of me having to get one and hard wire it to the battery??
Heya, I borrow this thread for awhile. I'm planning on taking longer trips with my bike and want to use my mobile phone as GPS and connect it to a charger while driving. See my question further below. Here is some general information about my electronic stuff for my travel. Mobile holder: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/360-...-For-Mobile-Phone-PDA-GPS-MP4/1881080034.html I ordered this universal mobile holder for ~£4 from China. I haven't tested it long enought to be able to recommend it at the moment. It's attached to the windscreen metal and I had to replace the screw with a longer bolt. The bike is a 2006 year model with a HESD (Honda Electronic Steering Damper). So I was limited where to place the holder. Mobile charger: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271732151962?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT This charger charge the phone either 2.1A or 1A (5V) and it cost ~£4,5. I noticed that when I'm using google maps navigation on my Galaxy Note 3, it uses more than 1A for just keep the navigation program running. That's why I wanted to have ~2A charger. With the other socket I can charge my intercom as well if it's a longer journey. Intercom: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free...phone-headset-helmet-intercom/1335547326.html http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free...For-Helmet-Bluetooth-Intercom/1832002989.html I can recommend this intercom because it works very good and at a very low price. I payed ~£36 for the intercom and a extra smaller microphone. I can use the intercom while having a call at ~40-50 mph without any problem. But I like listening to music and it works very good with Android, how it pauses the music for the voice navigation. Question: What I need help is to where would be the best way to connect my charger? I have a HISS (Honda Ignition Security System) and a Datatool S4 C221 Green Immobiliser. I wish it would only to have power when the ignition is on, so it won't draw any power while stopped. The S4 is connected underneath the saddle. Please give as much details as possible when describing if someone have a good idea.
Best and safest option would be to fit a relay unit to automatically switch power to the charge unit. The relay can be either a four pin or five pin relay, the solenoid pins of the relay normally labeled pins 85 & 86. One of these pins would be wired to an earth connection like the negative battery pole or engine earth connection and the other pin of the relay would go to an ign switched live like the headlight wire at the fuse box. Now with the solenoid side of the relay all wired it's time to wire the relay controlled live side to power the charger. The relay pins your interested here are normally labelled 30 & 87 if you have a five pin relay it will also have a pin labelled 87a which in this instance is not required so will not be connected to anything! I would connect pin 30 to the live connection of your charger unit this way there is no chance of a stray live connection going down through pin 87a as pin 30 connects directly to pin 87a when relay is powered off, pin 87 would go to the battery live (positive battery pole) but I would recommend an inline fuse to be fitted between the battery and the relay so if any issues arise the power gets cut off as close to the battery as possible. If you only have a four pin relay type it does not matter which way round you connect the charger and battery live wires to pins 30 & 87! Hope this helps you with your wiring, I have tried to make everything as clear as possible but if you can't follow anything give us a shout.
