Anyone using the GT air? Like the look of it and the built in sun visor is a great idea on a sport styled lid

I was advised against buying one from a friend in the business, due to them being inherently weaker in the front due to the internal visor, she doesn't recommend them at all !!
Btw she's been selling motorcycle helmets for 20 years !

It's funny because for years shoei said they wouldn't follow the market due to safety for those reasons!
Wonder why they have changed there mind, new technology or for the money?

Any tests or reviews to back that up? I can't find any...?

I don't think it's a case of not being safe its more not as safe as one without glasses, if you think about it there is a gap in the protection where the glasses slide down from which would create a weak point compared to one with no hole.
A bit like flip up helmets, they are safe and offer plenty of protection however not as much as a full face due too week points.
They have both been deemed safe after intensive testing though so I wouldn't worry

Arai have just released a Helmet with an external Sun Visor for this very reason.

Think I read it on the Bog a day or two ago in Performance Bikes or Fast Bikes Mag.

Don't bother me sen just use a Dark Visor on my X-Spirit 2

I have a built in sun visor on my lid and after taking it apart to clean it I can see nowhere where the visor compromises the safety of the structure or at all weakens it. I think maybe the early and cheap versions may have had some issues but not heard any concerns other than from people selling lids that don't have this option.

I am on my second lid with sun visor now so 3yrs and no issues whatsoever ;)

I only tend to use it in direct sunlight head on as I have a tinted visor generally but is useful when you will be riding at day and night and don't want to carry a clear and tinted visor

I understand that they are good idea and im sure they will work for many years, but what if you fall off and bang your head ? as previously said id rather have the better protection. That just my opinion now ;)
plus people selling helmets dont 'generally' give a s##t as long as you buy one !!!

I did mate as it happens. Thumped my head hard on the floor with first lid and no issues at all with the visor compromising safety. In fact I still have it as a spare lid for emergency.

What I think is the issue though is the type of plastic shell the lids are made of. Some shatter easily and others are designed to slide etc and not break apart. It was an extra 100quid to have effectively the same design lid just with a more expensive harder "tri-composite fibre shell with TCT® structure" design.

Interestingly my lid with internal visor still has a higher impact/safety rating that a lot of lids without internal visors so I don't really think it's a safety issue from that aspect. :)

Well you think that's funny, I now have two bikes since the knock.... both the same colour alongside each other in the garage. Interestingly they come together when you get closer to them :D

The one huge advantage of the internal dark visor i found was in Spain every time we came to a tunnel and there is a lot a quick flick up of the dark visor and back to my clear visor on the other hand when the firebloke came to a tunnel with his dark visor it was panic time and bike swerving all over the road :D( ok maybe a slight exaggeration) but it was a big problem for him.

Regarding safety of it as long as it has the gold sticker of approval on the helmet I am 100% happy with that I am not surprised more helmet companies are doing them .

So it gets my thumbs up I could do with it for track use as well as it saves swopping visors but my Shoei xr1000 is only 2 years old so will have to just swop visors for now.:D

My mate rates his GT-Air highly and he pilots a 1400 Ninja. I went for the NXR though last month. Just waiting on the photochromatic visors to become available. I was amazed that it weighed in the same as my old X-602R Nolan!
