Hi all, New to the forums and new to the Fireblade so apologies in advance if I have asked a dumb ass question or posted in the wrong place! Picked up my 2012 Anniversary HRC on Saturday and so far have managed a trouble free few hundred miles with a beaming smile; however, I have a vibration noise in all gears coming from the front end (sounds like it's just below and ahead of the tank but very difficult to pinpoint when moving..) between 4000-5000rpm. There isn't any unexpected noise anywhere else in the range. Appreciate it could be one of MANY things but any thoughts?
Hi what sort of mileage has it got on it , my friend has had an issue like this , it turned out to be a faulty timing chain tensioner , this was on a 60 plate bike
Mike, I had a similar vibration coming from the front of the bike around the same revs.. it was the bracket that hold the clocks that the bolts had worked slack.. simple tighten up - sorted!
Thanks guys, I'll double check that tonight. I had intended on having a proper look over the weekend but I'll check those over tonight; fingers crossed it's the same issue or something equally simple. To be fair, it doesn't sound terminal, my thoughts were something loose too.
Hi mate, just read your post and had to sympathise! I had the same problem and it ended up being the carbon infill that came with the yoshimura exhaust! If you have an aftermarket exhaust, check down there and tighten up anything you added because it does work itself loose in time. You'll be amazed how these vibrations resonate around the bike and show up in the most unlikeliest of places! Good luck.
Interesting, I have the Yoshi too so will check that tonight, thanks for the tip. I have to agree though, it's often nowhere near where you think it's coming from and you can hardly lean over and check whilst mobile; annoyingly these things never manifest themselves when you're looking on the stand...
Had a quick look last night at the suggested and also anything else that was easily accessible, I couldn't see anything that had worked loose. In the absence of having any other suggestions I'll wait until the weekend and have a proper look. Thanks all for advice so far.
Sorry to hear it's not the infill fixings, I have to admit it did feel a bit too straightforward and I've learnt that NOTHING is straightforward on a blade! But I'm confident the vibration is because of the R77! It's at its deepest tone at roughly that rev range and it'll find something to vibrate. As much as I hate to say it, you might be taking that tank off this weekend in your search and from experience that's just like carrying out brain surgery! Best of luck and keep us posted on how you get on!
Thanks Scottie, I hope you're right but although more than capable I am loathed to do it; I only bought the bike a week ago and collected her on Saturday just gone from a Honda dealer so whilst not a new bike, I asked for a full service to be included in the overall cost of the bike (which it was) so wasn't expecting to have to troubleshoot issues like this in my first week of ownership. Fingers crossed it is something 'loose' although taking her out for a spin this evening to try harder to isolate the noise it does appear to be there albeit not to the same level of intrusion at lower revs too, seems to increase and decrease frequency with revs so I am thinking is could be CCT as mentioned earlier by Bob. The only time it disappears altogether is when the throttle is pinned open Oh the joys of bike ownership!
Yeah yeah, any excuse for a ride out this evening! I totally agree, it's the dealership's problem, not yours and sure they'll get it sorted. I think Bob could certainly be onto something re the CCT too. Hope you're up straight in time for the heat wave that's on its way! Ha!
I found this video on another forum, it sounds just like this passing 4200-5000ish. General consensus where I found this was CCT. Arse. 2012 cbr1000 RR buzz sound at 4000rpm - YouTube I guess I will be on the phone to the dealer tomorrow then! I'm still under Honda warranty although only until the end of this month so hopefully they will be willing to sort, especially given they have just sold me the bike and serviced it and told me all was spanking!
I just spoke with the dealer who, in their credit, were very helpful and are arranging for me to take the bike in to a more local dealer (they are a chain) to be looked at. Hopefully they'll remedy FOC, time will tell!
Hopefully this'll be resolved tomorrow, it's taken a while as the dealer wanted to wait until their Head Technician was back at work (I believe the other guy has only recently moved to Honda and is still going through his conversion training) but I'm booked in for tomorrow to investigate; I'm now fairly sure it's the CCT based on symptoms and reading a number of posts both here and elsewhere. Looking forward to having it sorted and some better weather..!
Hi Mike , just watched that you tube clip , my friends made that exact noise , cct faulty , Get your man at the dealers to give Padgetts at Batley in West Yorkshire a ring and ask to speak to Brennan , he is the tech that fixed my friends , good lad really knows his stuff
EXACTLY the same as mine. It's the CCT. Mines getting done next monday for £120 supply and fit. Mine doesn't do it on acceleration, it's when it's not under load, i.e when i back off the throttle. More obvious when i'm in neutral and rev it.
i'm fairly certain too Si. Frustration for me is that the dealer listened to the noise when I first picked the bike up a few weeks ago and agreed that it sounded like the CCT but could not fit the bike in to investigate until Monday this week, they now have it. However, after 2 days all they have managed to do so far is confirm they have listened to and observed a noise that 'shouldn't be there' and they have submitted the warranty claim to Honda to progress. Obviously I understand the red tape and they have to jump through Honda's hoops in order to get paid for the work but really, replacing the CCT shouldn't take 2 days (so far). It's no wonder people often have a bad experience with dealers! Hopefully I should have some positive news later this afternoon. Hopefully...
