I'm trying to buy a new car. Well a 2nd hand one. My trusty old 1.8 Focus is getting a bit whiffy and I fancy something that doesn't cost £250 / year to tax and has a few gadgets like cruise control and bluetooth etc. I've not got kids so it doesn't NEED to have tonnes of space or 5 doors. I'm going round and round in circles and just don't know what to get. I've got about £9K to spend. Anyone got any suggestions?
How many miles do you do? Is mpg a concern? Are you a sporty driver or do you want something sensible?
Is load lugging a necessity? Carry many passengers? Annual mileage? Hatchback style? Number of doors important?
My car is mostly used for driving 15 miles up a dual carriageway to work and then 15 miles home again in the evening. I'd like it to be able to tackle longer journeys with aplomb when required. That's why I'd quite like cruise control. MPG-wise. As long as I could get low 40s I'd be fine with that.
Load lugging - Not important Passengers - 2 (Very very occasionally 3) Annual mileage - Circa 10,000 Hatchback - Yes No of doors - Not important
Had a look at an MX5. I used to have one. I would need to carry 3 on very rare occasions though as, although I don't have kids, our lass does.

Well if I had £9k I'd buy a 118d/120d sport/msport again.Great cars to drive not dear on tax and brilliant on fuel.Reasonable size boot and doesn't depreciate badly. If you get the sport it comes with the msport recaro type seats.Much better than the standard seats. Other car would be a Skoda Fabia vrs again recaro seats and just as fast /economical as the bmws.

As I mostly concentrate my love on the Blade I'm really not wanting to buy a car that could end up costing me a lot in parts and maintenance. That's why I've been running a Focus for the last 5 years. A friend of mine has just sold his A4 convertible because things kept f*cking up on it and costing him a packet.
I think with a 30 mile journey everyday, having a nice view is important, being able to look around and see what's going on. Like on a bike. Perhaps a 4x4/mpv type, at least something with a bit of height.
Yeah, that's why i sold my scooby in the end - if it wasn't breaking then i'd be upgrading parts, cost me a fortune. Any newish hatchback diesel is going to be good, what about a newer focus if the last one has done you well over the last 5 years?
I adore my 2.0 Sportech, same colour too, but in three years the MPG has never once shown '30'. '29.8' on occasion, but never higher.
Yeah that's why I sold my Scooby too. I was paying £200 / month just to drive to work and back and it was p*ssing me off royally What do people think about this? Cars For Sale
