Hi newbie here. I'm thinking of buying a Fireblade trackbike from a friend to race on this season. It had it's frame changed after an off damaged the old one 3 years ago and the one bought from a scrap yard had the last 2 digits drilled out by the scrap yard. This obviously means it won't pass ACU scrutineering. As it's a great bike and comes with everything I need to go racing I was thinking of buying it and then looking out for a second hand frame with intact frame numbers and swapping them over. Few questions I was hoping to get answers too though.

What year Fireblade frames fit an 05 Blade

How much would i be roughly looking at to buy a second hand frame.

I'm pretty good with spanners but is it a major ballache to swap them over? Is there a good thread on here taking you through it. I've never owned a Blade before but have stripped 2 of my Superduke Rs to the frame before.

Might come up with some other questions but that's it for the minute

    Cheers

Seen frames on eBay every now and then ranging from 800-1500 higher end for one with v5, prob better picking a high mileage one up for around the 3k mark then you have a spares package too ;)

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately buying a 2nd bike isn't an option due to limited budget :( Am I right in thinking 04-07 frames are the same?

There were 200 changes on the 06/07 I know rear shock and linkage were changed, unsure about frame though but someone will be along to tell you

Thanks dude I'm in a real dilemma as it's a cracking bike with some fab aftermarket parts on it, perfect for my budget and I know its last 5 years history.

Part number for the 04/5 and the 06/7 are different. There are quite a few changes and unless you have a donor bike it could cost dearly me thinks.

It might be less hassle to get another bike without this issue. Such a shame as its a cracking bike that comes with so many spares should the worst happen in a race. Unfortunately no spare frame :(

Thanks for that dude :) I've texted him and he still has it at a reasonable price. Frame numbers are intact, he's emailing me some pics. P&P shouldn't be too bad from Ireland so could be a winner! Does anyone know if I could register it with DVLA to get a V5? No intention of putting it on the road but always good to have should I wish to sell on at a later date. Lastly do you need any special tools to do a frame swap?

    04/05 23.75 deg rake 102mm trail 06/07 23.45 deg rake 100mm trail

    rest is the same.

In short, later frame turns a little quicker. Nothing you can't tune out in older bikes! other than they like to run a little flat.

Last question.. for now. How many digits should a 05 Frame number have and where is it stamped? Is it just a plate riveted on or stamped into headstock as well?

Thanks dude. Well I think I've sorted that frame. Not a bad price either. All looks legit (hopefully) Now just comes the swapping the frames over work. Fingers crossed it's not too difficult.
