I have this desktop computer from work, really good spec (3.4Ghz processor, 16Gb RAM, Solid State hard drive, USB 3.0 etc), but I need to reinstall Windows in it and can't get the graphics card to output anything on the new installation. It currently has a foreign version of Vista 64bit and the 1Gb MSi graphics card has a DVI, HDMI & Display Port that all work with the current Windows install, but when I insert my own Hard Drive that has Windows 7 64bit I get no output from the graphics card even when booting up. I can use my own shitty 256Mb PCI-e graphics card and hook up to a monitor via VGA, but I want the MSi card to work so I can use its extra graphics performance for video editing and playback to my Plasma TV via HDMI. Could I be missing something?
Unfortunately not. The motherboard has them built in, but the manual states that if the Processor doesn't support on board graphics then they don't work, which I tested and appears to be the case.
Only ask as I wondered if it was switching to another card with the other HDD connected. I never boot an OS from another PC as most of the time it just flips out but no reason why it would not fail to show a BIOS and POST info? Is odd for sure, what's the drive SATA?
One for the computer boffins. Having trouble to desktop graphics card install... Fair point, but i installed the Windows 7 OS on this PC by using my old 256mb card. I even installed the MSi drivers with the 256 card in place so when I switched cards the MSi would work when i turned it on, but still no output via DVI or HDMI (although i don't have anything to check the display port). Both drives are the same SATA2 SSD drives, they're not very big (120Gb), but they are lightening fast Unless I can get the MSi card to install then I may just sell it to someone who knows what they are doing and buy a 1gb card with VGA. Shame though as it's got HDMI v1.4 and even supports 4k Ultra HD & would go well with a new telly
Oh ok, no reason why then the OS will moan, forget that.. Display ports often don't boot the display if they are not connected from boot but your not using it so...... So what method you connecting the Msi up with? DVI to DVI?
No power connection required on either cards. And that's exactly why i'm asking the question, 'cos i'm stuck.
lol, yeah makes two, but hay, you gotta try... So come on then what card is it? Got to be something simple? Does it power up without any boot drives?
One for the computer boffins. Having trouble to desktop graphics card install... Its badged MSi, but comes up as an ATi Radeon 7700 Series. http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R7750PMD2GD3.html
Good idea to turn on with no drives, although on the Windows Vista HDD it doesn't show anything until Windows starts, but when using the Windows 7 drive and 256 card I can see from the boot up screen via VGA & DVI.
Boot with F8 held down to boot in safe mode, install drivers and reboot seems the obvious route. Unless I'm missing something.
yeah why not boot from CD/DVD reformat the new PC and start from fresh, then install your windows 7 and all will be fine? is there something you need to keep from work or can you just start from scratch?
Check the GFX priority in the BIOS. If it has an onboard gfx card you may have options in there that tell the motherboard which graphics card to boot from first. If it's set to onboard first then you won't get anything on screen until the windows driver kicks in and switches it back to your card...
Make sure card is seated correctly, some gfx card need a final shove on the end to go fully in. Then reset BIOS to default if the reseat doesn't work. Coyld pop round and have a look on the weekend if you cant suss it before then.
I just tried booting up with no drives and still no output. No output in DOS, bootup, or with my Windows 7 drive produces an output with this graphics card, so trying Safe Mode didn't show anything for me to work with either. I don't need the works installation at all, although there's no CD/DVD drive, but I did install Windows 7 on my HDD via a USB stick when using my 256Mb graphics card. This produced a VGA output for me to install the graphics drivers to get it's DVI for my TV to work, but even then installing the MSi drivers I can't get the 1Gb card to output anything. Would this be the case when I get a boot-up/DOS screen with the 256Mb graphics card? If so, then I can check the motherboard user manual and see what I can change (although I will need the working graphics card installed to check). Seems to be seated ok and works fine with the works Vista drive in. re. resetting the BIOS. I've shorted the CMOS battery jumper which I believe resets the BIOS, the problem remains the same though. I may just buy another 1Gb card, but it's a weird problem. Anyone got a monitor with Thunderbolt/Display Port willing to check the card?
Not sure if my monitor has a display port, will try to remember to check tomorrow. What PCI spec is the card? My pc is about 2.5 years old and cant remember if my card is pci x16.
