Hello All, I appreciate tyres are the most personal of tastes outside of which colour is best .. .. However, my bike came fitted with a set of BT023's .. bloody horrible on a fireblade .. Its time for them to go. I do some mixed riding, including what I call spirited touring .. some motorway necessity riding .. and some sport riding with decent cornering speeds and angles (my personal favourite) I obviously need a dual compound tyre. I don't want PR2's or 3's I need more grip than they can offer .. I don't want to be stuck with the limited grip of tyres like those and the BT023's I had .. I'm guessing they all might much the same? Dunlop Sportmax2's ? Pilot Powers? Anyone offer any tips or experience or recommendations?
If U don't want a Sports Touring Tyre like the amazing PR3/4's then it's gota be the Pirelli Rosa Corsa's that I fitted after running PR3's. I've had then on 1200 miles now and they look hardly worn but were ACE on the one and only Track Day I did on my Blade before buying a dedicated Track Bike. They also won Performance Bikes Sports Tyre of the year 2013. Oh, and swap out the 50 series aspect ratio to a 55, best tyre mod going!
Rosa Corsa's got tough centre compound? I don't know .. just got a feeling those things are gonna end up square when I blast down to the south of France . .. and that's the trouble .. I gotta do that ride .. but I want to scratch when I get down there! lol The BT023's put me right of ST tyres .. although I know the Michelins are a cut above .. there must be something like that with a lean towards performance riding .. ??
You want a tyre to do multiple things on the road if I read correctly, but a PR3 does not have enough grip, wow take my hat off to yer!
I run Bridgestone S20 and seam to wear well and have plenty of side grip and able to deal with wet weather etc...
Me too. Road the ring a few times on 3's running out of bollox before grip. I'm no regular but we was hitting 9m after 3 laps so going ok Also got me through 3k in 9 days and lasted another 2k after. Knee down all over the route napoleon etc.... Never had in issue, if anything think they are grippier than other so called sports tyres Seen lads run in fast groups very well on them too. Just got the 4's and first impressions are very promising. Wouldn't have any other road tyre at the moment tbh. Fantastic value for money. 1200 miles out of s20 rear and less than 2k out of sportsmarts isn't cricket IMO. And wouldn't even see you through a week away. Yes the Rosso corsa prob offer more grip, but I'm convinced I couldn't ride any quicker on the road on them... So you'd only get that extra benefit on track, but inuse racetecs for that The s20 lasted four days in Scotland. Most of it in the wet ffs
I have't ridding the PR'3, just loads of other ST Tyres and PR2's on an older sports bike .. if you are saying PR3's are man enough then PR4's almost certainly just gonna be better?
Certainly man enough for me. Bit might not be enough for you lol! You could be really manly ha Must admit I was sceptical but couldn't stomach another tour having new tyres half way round.... But now total convert. Prob is they are expensive so it's too much to Just try. But know quite a few off here have tried them, not heard any complaint to date
metzeler racetecs amazing dont last long but if you want the best grip for a superbike they are worth there weight in gold
I'm looking to change my tyres too on my 06. Up to now have been running 2ct and they've been good, not sure whether to go for Pilot Power 2cts or Pirelli Diablo rosso corsa. I'm a sunny day rider and don't care too much if I only get 2k out of them so longevity not a problem by want something nice and grippy. Any thoughts? Thanks
Having used Dunlop Sportsmarts for fast road and track and lasting 4k on the rear, if the 2's are better that should be amazing Had great fun on track with the Sportsmarts they stick well I went 2Ct's to Sportsmarts and would not go back
Also worth a read http://1000rr.co.uk/mods-upgrades-accessories-products/309.htm lots of feedback from people running loads of different tyres
FWIW I have PR3's on my Blade it's my swiss army knife does everything track weapon, sunny sunday rides and the daily commute into the big smoke everyday. I ride all year round whatever the weather. Covered about 4k now on my PR3's and no sign of huey lewis and the news yet (hip to be square) despite most of the winter riding consisting of commuting and in the monsoon that was Dec, Jan and Feb I can't fault them in the wet. The only gripe I do have about them is in the wet with lots of standing water because they clear so much of it off the road they tend to dump it all over the back of your bike but grip wise can't fault them as Jimbo said you'll run out of balls before you run out of grip with these things. If you want something as an all rounder then they are deffo great tyres I am considering using Pilot Power 3's for the summer and my track time as I just fancy something a little softer for the track but I know racers who use PR3's and no doubt 4's this year as their inter tyre because it's got such fantastic wet grip and does really well in the dry too.
OK Current Front Runners .. Sportsmart 2's Pilot Pures Pilote Power 2CT PR3's (4's taking the piss price wise tbh) LOL .. still can't decide .. have to soon lol
Pilot Power 3. Plenty grip and 4k miles out of a set! For some reason tho twice now when Ive ordered these they have brought in the Pilot Road 3 by mistake as the pilot Roads are so popular. A few people have converted to them (PP) after riding my bike as confidence is great from the off ) And yes as said earlier 55 profile a definite!
Will the 55 profile mod make much difference in side winds or to wrist ache forgive me if this sounds daft....
