Having taken out the Blade for it's first run Sunday afternoon since last September I feel the gearbox aint all it should be. Up shifts are notchy and under full bore acceleration sometimes it just doesn't want to change up and it takes a second stab? Maybe I've been spoilt by the ZX10's gearbox but I'm wondering whether a change to fully Synth oil is worth a punt as currently it runs the recommended Semi Synth where as the ZX runs Motul 300 FS?
If I'm correct you have a 12/13 blade?? I have one for on track an think it's the best gearbox I have had. up and down shifts are great without any problems, even back into first on tight corners, big difference from the 09 and 07 blades I've had. Shifting is even better than on the nova gearbox I had on my R6.
Sounds like the problems ive been having, seems to happen more often under hard acceleration. It either gives me false neutrals or just doesn't fully engage the chosen gear and drops back to the original... I have mine going into Rochdale Honda on Tuesday.....
Rode mine for the first time in 6 months at the weekend, running with Silkolene Pro4 10-40. Everything very slick and smooth.
MrB not saying you know anything about the workings of Honda/Yamaha dealerships or the roles of service managers (hush hush) but what in your opinion should i expect Rochdale Honda to do concerning my poor gearbox performance?? Ive spoke to the service manager there and he tells me they won't strip it to see if all is ok, so im just wondering what will they do??
I would imagine, if I did know anything about the workings of Honda/Yamaha dealerships or the roles of service managers they will ask a tech to test ride the bike. If a fault is found then Honda UK 'should' be engaged to ask for advice upon their recommended resolution which I hope would mean authorising the labour to cover diagnoses. If not fault found nothing obviously Let me know how you get on.
I don't get false neutrals I just find caining it through the gears, say from 4th onwards can lead to a refusal to change up first time. Yes Bloy you're probably right the ZX box is 'Sweet As'! Maybe a good excuse to Piss more money away on a Quickshifter for the Blade also? (Arthur rubs his hands!)
Mine was changed to fully sync on the 600 mile service my gearbox has always been nice and now it's even nicer running race shift . I think change your oil to 10w 30 I use castrol power racing 1 but whatever you prefer . But my guess is your getting used to the QS mate when I brought my r6 and my zx6r with no QS they were a fooking nightmare now fitted to zx6r no problems I thought it was bike but must of been me being clutch or blip throttle idle
Just checked with my service invoice and it says they used Putoline Sport 4 10-30w, so im going to change that but would anyone recommend changing the oil filter too or should just the oil change be enough??
Definitely change the oil mate, my blade started getting a bit notchy and when I changed the oil in her, she was a different bike all together, does make massive difference. I run the silkolene fully synthetic 10w40
Well i walked in Hunts today to get myself a new oil filter and a nice big bottle of silkolene fully synthetic 10-40w only to walk out empty handed and more than a little confused. I asked for my oil and they asked me what was if for so i told them only to receive a long lecture from two parts guy's on the serious damage fully synthetic oil will do to a Blade with a slipper clutch. The two parts guy's were then joined by a mechanic who told me he had been a mechanic now for 39 years and confirmed that what i need is 10-30 semi synthetic otherwise the slipper clutch would become damaged. All to do with the fully synthetic being to thin and over heating.... I bought some wax chain lube and got out of there, my head was hurting....
If that's true, which I'm sure it isn't, then I'd have been asking the question how come my ZX10R which has a slipper clutch runs like clockwork using fully synth Motul 300V? Arthur?
lol, some funny stuff gets said.....lol Well I have been running and use with all my customers bikes Castrol Power 1 10-30 FULLY SYNTH on all blades from 2006 on, I have never had any problems with OEM or aftermarket slippers with Fully Synth oil and use it with many many many different brands of bikes, not just Hondas, the blade should run the best qual fully synth oil money can buy imo. I do not understand why someone would say some of the things they do re semi and fully synth oils ??? As for fully being thinner?? Well 10-30 is 10-30 no??
The guy was telling me that fully synthetic heats up more and quicker thus making it become thinner??? Any way i know absolutely nothing about oil and its workings except that if i found lots of it coming up from my back garden i could end up becoming rich!!!! Its funny because when i was telling the big lad who works there in the service department that i was informed that fully synthetic was better according to people i know, he sort of lost it and nearly threw a tantrum, i actually thought he was going to cry.. I think he thought i was making a personal attack on him.... So im going back there tomorrow and im going to demand milk as my preferred engine oil, that should get them at it.....
