Spring oil change due, M & P doing good deal on Castrol Power 1 with K & N Oil filter. Any problems with them ? or should I stick with Honda filter ?
K&N has the bonus of being tightened up with a Ratchet although my last one rounded off when using the Torque Wrench on it!
been using the k&n oil filters for 5 years now, as we need to safety wire our oil filters and the k&n has the nut on it with the holes already there to saftey wire it.... I can get them cheaper now than the oem ones
Ive always used them, liked the idea of the nut to remove them. However the one I just removed from my engine was so tight I rounded the nut part off!! I never put it on must have been a shaved gorilla! Had to do the old screw driver trick to remove it hehe
TBH the moulding of the Nut 'aint all that' as when I was tightening up the 17mm socket (or whatever size it was) was not the best fit. It weeped slightly at the 20 Nm (or whatever size it was) Torque it stated so I had to nip up to cure it. Not uncommon as the Filter housings are so wide that any discrepency in mating surfaces is magnified at these diameters so quite often requires a higher Nm to pull the mating surfaces in to alighment
Sorry to say this guys but................ALWAYS use OE oil filters..................And I mean.............ALWAYS!!. Whats the difference in price? a few quid maybe? Don't be a cheap arse and buy the best . And to just add a bit more fuel to the fire, I've seen at least 2 K & N filters that have leaked where the "Nut" has been attached to the body. Just saying like!
Fair point haggler but why? My workplace have been using after market filters for over a decade, never had one come back. I wonder if honda even design the filters, they probably pay someone else and stamp the honda logo on it lol
