Hi Julian, long time no hear!

Have a look at sites like Pepipoo, but points go after 3 years, so its just your insurance you need to worry about.

Ok so not that I have ever been in this sort of situation..... ;)

The effect a ban would have on you personally is irrelevant to the judges when sentencing because it's your own fault but if others could suffer hardship from you being banned then that is pretty much the only way they will consider being lenient.

For example I may have had a team of employees that would have been adversely affected by me receiving a ban.

Mine was for totting up not crazy speeds :)

Personaly I would definatly get some advise at the very least from a solicitor, most of them give you half an hour free so theres nowt to loose and you'll have a decent idea where this may be heading ... try and find a good one though because the one I had in 1984 when I got banned was about as much use as a fart in a whirlwind

As you were just over 50% over the limit and with a fair bit of ink already on your licence (even though it sounds like your past discretions have expired), even if they aren't taken into consideration they will influence the decision, I think you may be lucky not to get banned.

A mate has just been banned two weeks ago for a year and ordered to retake his tests (bike and car), not for speeding may I add but I'm pretty sure there will have been some of that in the mix .... I have heard retaking tests is the norm after a ban but I'm not sure if it's true, but if it is then solicitors fee's will be worth paying compared to the cost and fuckon retaking tests in my opinion

It may be worth thinking about reasons to give why they shouldn't take your licence away

Good luck ... I hope they don't give you too much of a kicking

To clarify a ban will depend on the charge being brought. Having been stopped by the Met myself two years ago and accused of doing 90 in a 50 which, I know I wasn't I was no where I near that I know exactly how fast I was going but I was never going to admit it so basically because their car didn't have video equipment they couldn't prove it and I stuck to my guns that I didn't know my actual speed because I was too focused on what was going on further up the road.

After a bit of a talking to in the back of the police car I was released with a £30 fine and a fix or repair order for a 7x5 number plate that I had on my bike at that time.

My point here is that when they first stopped me and came up with all this 90 in a 50 bs they mentioned that as I was nearly two times the speed limit then that would carry a charge of dangerous driving as well as the offence of speeding and that if the court convicts on a charge for dangerous driving you are most certainly looking at a ban and a retest.

So find out exactly what you are being charged for what offences and under what act etc. If you can't afford legal advice or counsel then speak to the CAB Citizens Advice Bureax they will be able to assist you with definitions of the acts and offences you are being charged with along with the penalties they might incur.

Hope that is at least of some use mate and hope you get the result you are hoping for.

Julian, get a 'Brief' and impress upon him your need not to get anymore points as your employer will give you 'the sack'. Way back when, I was the subject of a high speed pursuit on and around the M6 and got charged with five counts of exceeding the limit (140+ on the M-way! Those were the daze lol) and 1 of reckless driving (on my own bike, a GPz 900) all at the same time. It looked bad but thankfully, my solicitor pointed out that the five 'speedings' and the 'reckless' were one and the same and they were trying to nail me for the same crime twice and, further-more, I needed my license to be able to drive 3 other blokes to work every day. The bench noted this and they gave me 10 point to add to the 3 I'd just got for running a red light so, even with 13 points, they let me keep my ticket. That was ages ago and I've behaved myself ever since. Until earlier this week, when, on a dark, wet night in Kidderminster, on my way to HRH, The King of Tonga's UK residence to collect the 'Honda Racing' tailpack I'd just bought from him, I got 'flashed' (in the works van, FFS!) doing less that 40 in a 30 zone. Bummer!

As we say, Get yourself some representation mate. Good luck.

    Nick.

    I was caught doing 90 in a 60. 5 points and £450 fine. Bit steep I thought.

Nick, given the doubtful reputation of 'The Met' do you not think it possible that an offer of a donation to the 'Police Benevolent Fund' ;) may have bought the matter to a speedier conclusion?

Need to convince court you have taken steps to learn from the experience. Depends on how desperate you are to avoid points/ban, sell fireblade and buy a slower bike. You can then stand there in court explaining how sorry you are and show the steps you have taken to address the situation. If it works, it has done in the past! you can always buy another one afterwards.

just so happens i am booked for a guided ride with two Police motorcyclists on April 12th and have a Road Safety Course booked for May 15th, hopefully that'll help, also i phoned the DVLA to find out how many points i had and if and when they expired, after about 20 minutes on hold it seems for some reason they have 2 records of my licence which don't match up and want me to send back my licence and all my test certificates etc ...just what i need !!!

Hope you are not one of those that they have 'No record' of you ever passing your test. I would be very careful what you send back, if they' lose' them like has happened to may others you have no proof that you ever passed your test.

Prob' about a month ban and a fine and 3 points. You'll be riding for the summer (if we get one) no problem.

When I got month ban there was no points, just a fine. 67 in a 30 :( in a Fiesta, not a built up area but a road to and past a school, it was a Saturday afternoon though (no excuse I know).
