I'm investing in some new alloys for my car, and the bloke who's going to be doing the fitting has suggested I get some alloygators to protect the edges, has anyone on here used them, I've not met anyone who'd even heard of them. They're reasonably cheap, (compared to repairing scuffed alloys) about 120 to buy and get him to fit to the alloys, made of tough nylon, but from the pictures I've seen they seem to stick out a fair bit from the wheel, which I suppose they have to but I'm not sure how far. If anyone has them do they spoil the look of the wheel or is it worth it for not having scrapes and scuffs?

Never seen of anything either Pete,
But If such things are available & you or the O/H are kerb scrappers when parking? to Save any potential damage/arguments and you can live with the looks? You'd Best just fit them.

    Oh.....And make it snappy. ;)

I've heard they scuff just as badly as wheels do so still end up looking Gash, however a light scuff means only a new Gator needs fitting but they aint cheap.

They won't stop a medium to heavy kerbing at all so for me, I'm out!

Just learn to drive better! ;)

Strangely enough I never hit kerbs, nor apparently does my OH but somehow on the last car I had some nasty looking scrapes on the near side only. The alloys I'm looking at aren't cheap so I'm just thinking about protection for them.

Downside is that anything that covers them to protect them also detracts from the whole look of the wheel. I need some sort of ventureshield for wheels!

I would expect dust, dirt and other crap to get stuck behind the gators n like sw said scratch the crap out of the wheels anyway makin them look tatty!

I would be inclined to just leave the wheels as they were designed to look there best!
If you or your other half don't have a tendency to scratch the rims then leave em be.

A similar thing could be said about the rest of the car ie you or ohalf don't have a tendency to crash but it just may happen on occasion the car is damaged but that's what insurance is for no?
