Been getting some niggles with HM + quickshifter. Keep getting neutral from 1st to 2nd and occasionally 2nd to 3rd Sensitivity 50 kill 65 on c setting. Pressing or holding the button the back just flicks from sens to kill without changing the number and 'c' flashes on and off Any ideas Most of the time it changes pretty smoothly at generous throttle and revs.
You need to put it in set mode . 1.switch bike off 2.press little button on back of HM Led unit while switching ignition on. 3. Switch ignition on you will see it count down from 5-0 on 0 let go of button 4.now your in set mode so press c for compression(for up shift) or e for extension for (race shift) and hold button then it will go to Sensititivity setting so press that and when at the setting you want hold button in then repeat for kill time setting. 5.Job done
You aren't really meant to use the shifter for 1st - 2nd mate as the HM+ can only use one kill time which isn't usually long enough for 1st - 2nd.
Don't worry about it Rich we'll set it up Saturday at the track day it easy once you get it into setup mode. P.S. That's another favour you'll owe me ;-)
A key point to remember, is that you need to decide upon your "sweetspot", revs wise, for gear changes. When you set the kill time to match your sweetspot, it will really only be slick at these revs, no matter what gear you are in. E.G. if you like to change at 9k revs & set your kill time to be slick at these revs, it will not be slick if you change at 5k revs or 12k revs. If its a road bike, you will be going some to get through many gears at 10k revs.
What settings are people using for racing using standard gearbox? I stuck a new battery in and itll prob have wiped my settings
Some info that I posted before for you in the HM section (saves me typing it again Ha Ha) Kill times depend on where in the rev range you like to shift, midrange will be around 62 and upper (redline-ish) will be around 55 or less! Sens will/should be set on each bike and will very depending on what rearsets (OEM often need near 100%!). Shift direction make sure you select what direction you require or when you down shift it will kill the motor for no reason, also when selecting N some bikes can stall! As for best settings if your after a clean shift it all depends on where you like to shift, best times for around the red line is around 55ms, mid range around 60-65ms, basically if the bike lurches then your kill time is to long if its hard to shift then it's too short, it should be nice and slick when best sens and kill times are used, try to keep your shifts in the same region of the rev range you can set your shift light to match the shifter then you have a visual of where its best. Sensitivity is different for each bike so you need to set the sens to show SHIFT on the display just as it clunks into gear, finally the shift direction is down to your setup I.e rearsets config, road or race pattern etc, use the one that matches your setup or you will kill the motor for no reason on down shifts. Ergonomics are a big factor too, be sure you set your shift peddle to be clear of your boot, I set them so they are above the riders boot (if standard pattern) so be aware that boots can interfere with things if its knocking the peddle around... A shift light is a must if racing or track as it gives a clear signal of just that, where best to shift... don't get me wrong you can short shift the HM but it will only be really slick where you set it, if the delay time is long lurching will be worse top end, if its short it will be harder to shift bottom end, the sweet spot is often around 58-62ms IMO for midrange to upper. The HM GP can be mapped for gear position and rev range, the HM Plus is still the best around for the money. The HM GP can be mapped out for gear position and revs, it has kill times for each gear, HMSS technology can trim the kill times real time making it slick across the rev range, it even prevents a SHIFT after 6th gear so no time is lost at all, a false KILL in a photo finish could cost you a win at top level, the GP is highly complex and fit for use at GP level. When you use both you can appreciate what amazing value for money the Plus model is, and how advanced the GP is.
Great post mate. Thanks. Im using a pro-mach shifter and race shift on a stocker race engine. Will play around with some of those settings and see how I get on!
Your welcome When looking at the data logging for the GP shifter the kill times can get very low, down into early 50ms and even lower at times, the GP shifter can trim the kill times in real time, does not sound like a big deal but when you think for example you have set a kill time of 60ms and the GP has determined that the gear has engaged and released the ignition saving 10ms, thus used a kill time of 50ms it's incredible to think all that was done in such a short period of time! This is whats known as HMSS (HM seamless shift), it requires a super fast CPU and a complex algorithm to work out when the gear has changed. I talk about the GP as its the data that shows how much the kill times can vary across the rev range, like I say the best option is to set a kill time and make sure you shift around the same place each time, then you will build a picture of what kill time is required, its easy to set your shift lights to match the shifter, don't worry about the limiter lights you will soon know where that is...lol
After a couple of months of fine tuning the settings on my shifter, and setting the ergo's of my shift peg to perfection....I'm now a very happy camper. Perfect shifts through the box, anywhere between 6k to 9k is good with the sweet spot being 7.5k......ideal for the road IMO. Thanks again Arthur for all your help and advice. Final settings were 62kill and 75 sens.
Honestly mate I dont even know where those lights are. Ive never looked at the dash for anything other than temperature or neutral lol! Sounds like this GP might be a decent investment
It is I love my GP I spend far to much time downloading the data log You can see gear position, revs at change expected shift time, HMSS time then total time saved that shift It really is amazing how it shifts compared to plus which let's face it is bloody good by any standard ! Even sets its self up for you learning gear ratios etc
That's why you need the HM dash, 5 programmable shift lights that build up to all 5 flashing, adjustable brightness that can be so bright you can't miss it! Go on, treat your self....lol (not forgetting GPS lap timers and MUCH more) Supplied and fitted by myself
PM me a price so I can dream Arthur lol is it plug n play .. Do I care if you fit it lol Do I get a corse in how to use it ?
Youve some talent for it Arthur. Thats me on twitter too giving you the odd buzz. Love your pics you put up. But if you don't start behaving ill be forced to sign out before I get the credit card out lol Dash would be wasted on me to be honest. I dont look at it. I did once and it scared me so I stopped that right and quick. I shift by feel of the engine but usually have my gears mapped out long before the race anyway. Does look yum tho and im a tart for shiney bits. They usually end up bent tho!
