Fellas and Ladies of course .....is it worth forking out for a noise meter re Trackday incursions or simply a waste of money.... Any recommendations / thoughts / experiences would be much appreciated. Cheers all............Neil
I'd say not TBH. You might just pass with yours yet just fail with the Track Day Operators, then what? What they say goes and if it doesn't pass theirs then they is not point arguing!
A very good point sir....... not open to negotiations are they, did'nt take that into consideration.....
If you going to do a lot of track days it might be worth it, also different tracks have different limits, you might pass one but not another
When buying my 09 fireblade the seller said that it will fail the noise test at certain tracks, is this true on a completely standard bike? Sorry for the slight hijack lilywhites. Andy B
Save your money. Even if yours is right and the organiser's one is wrong, you know who will win the argument on the test result. If you live near a track you can normally get them to do one for you if a track day is going on.
Yes some bikes as standard will fail on some tracks. Not sure what bikes and what tracks, but would suspect Castle Coombe is one of them.
I use the FIM ruling for noise testing but at track days its usually whatever the hell they want. Random distance and angle from exhaust with no care for meter height, wind direction or possible bounce back. Theres alot of variables at stake in sound testing and if someone doesnt care or know about them then even quiet bikes can fail. Sadly theres just no telling some people.
Have to say IMO the DB readings from the Iphone apps have all been inconsistent and pants case in point proved last year at a TD when I tested my bike at home it read 105 with the baffle in so turned up at track expecting to scrape it and when it got tested it actually came out at 100 so i need not have worried. As already stated it's down to the noise tester on the day all I can say is I've never had a problem with MSV or NL when being on track not been on track with FE but then heard a few horror stories so decided to give them a miss for the time being...
Unless you live on a farm then you probably had a good amount of bounce back from surrounding buildings!
I kind of see your point there dude but I tested it in a car park admittedly that did have walls around it but they were over 30 ft away would that have made that much difference do you think?
Hard to tell without seeing it but well could have. A bike barking back at you is never going to help. Lots can change between tests in terms of ambient temperature and if its raining you more or less shouldnt sound test. FIM says never to in wet conditions.
