I've just bought an old FZ750 to tinker with and return to it's former glory, as I love old 80's bikes. Made me wonder, if you were to own an old bike what would it be and why?
Very good choices mate, and think they sneak in! The RG is one of those "if only I had know back then" bikes, as in the mid 90's no one wanted one. A mate sold a minter for £1200 back then!
Dude.. Thats a mid to late 90s machine ! Your just making me feel old now ! You can pick em up for under £3k so you should just treat yourself and hide it away for 10 years
Ha, it's old to me! Came out the year before I passed my test and one flew past me on the A1 one day and that was it, I was getting a bike! Never got a go on one though, still time!
Oh lovely !! Id probably have it in the bedroom with a little sexy thong just randomly hanging from the brake lever That probably sounds a bit weird but hey ho
I would have another slingshot again, was my first 'big bike' loved it and should never have sold it really
I have one of these to tinker with And also this from my younger days .... a little while back now , which I decided to keep
Two nice appreciating classics there dude. I'd probably go back to a single light on the power valve though. That CBX should keep you busy lol
I agree with the single light now but the twin lights on my Valve are from about 20 yrs ago and were the fashion at the time ... which I thought were the donkeys danglies so they'll stay if only for the memories they bring back I have no time period on the CBX just something to play with when I have nowt else to do or when I feel like tinkering .... this is it at the min
I had a few powervalves and LC's back in the day. They are mostly responsible for my mangled legs. I'm still hoping to pick another up myself. At the mo I have an old RG250 waiting for the restoration treatment. I take it the engine on the CBX is all in order? I'd hate to have to strip that bugger down. I do marvel at the enormity and complexity of them though. My 80's and 90's big bikes were zed thou's and GSX1100's though. The misty eyed reminiscent me would love another, but recently I got a go on my old FJ1100 and its wasn't all I remembered it to be. The old Ducati above may be the same year, but it is light-years ahead in handling and stopping
The motor spins over ok but wouldn't start (even though it was trying to) due to the carbs being all bunged up (currently lying on the bench awaiting rebuild when I can source another breather and tickover adjuster) I'm ok with pulling the motor apart if it needs it, but I'm hopeing it doesn't need it I was very suprised when I first took the tank & panels of at how simple it was underneath (excluding the motor obviously) ... at first I thought there was loads missing modern bikes are way more complicated with all their electronic trickery, even my Valve has more electrics in it than the CBX I know what you mean about the FJ tho, thats one of the reasons why I don't take the Valve out anymore, my mate restored a 250LC last year and I had it for a little while to sort out the carbs, when I gave it a test ride that was the same as your FJ ... not quite how memory portrays them His LC250
