Why not get your friends and family to have a go??

Now that summer's here it makes more sense for many drivers to beat congestion by getting onto two wheels rather than into four.

So Honda (UK) is running a regular event called the Honda Motorecycle Experience, aiming to offer those thinking of taking to two wheels the opportunity to ‘Get on a Honda' in a relaxed, fun, yet professional environment.

Launching this week, Donington Park will host 20 dates throughout the summer where anyone who wants to have a go on a motorcycle can pre-book a 90-minute taster session run by experienced instructors, for just £39.99. The sessions will teach basic skills and help build confidence, with participants starting on a ‘twist & go' scooter and, if their instructor thinks they're good enough, working up to a 125cc geared motorcycle.

The idea is part of both Honda (UK)'s and the wider industry's drive to make it easier for people to try motorcycling. Figures reveal a total of just one million taxed motorcycles and five million license holders in the UK; pointing to around 55 million who are yet to enjoy the many benefits involved from holding a motorcycle licence.

Sessions will be held in groups of up to four people in the safe and secure environment of Donington Park, in Castle Donington, near Derby. At the end of their session participants will take the Honda Experience Skills Test to get a measure of how they've progressed; with expert advice on hand to talk through the next steps towards getting a full motorcycle licence.

Simon Herbert, Manager - Business Planning, Honda (UK): "With so many benefits to motorcycling, from lower travel costs, reduced journey time, reduced emissions through to the sheer fun factor of riding, we're always keen to encourage new riders to give two-wheels a try and to foster the next generation of motorcyclists. We're therefore delighted to be launching the Honda Motorcycle Experience at Donington Park. It's for anyone who is considering getting on a bike but isn't quite sure if they'll like it. We'll give them good introduction to the basics of motorcycling in a relaxed, informal and professional environment at a very affordable price."

The Honda Motorcycle Experience will be run alongside the well-established Honda Ron Haslam Race School at Donington Park - on the same dates throughout the summer - building upon a long and successful relationship between Honda and Ron over many years. The Ron Haslam School currently provides a range of experiences on Honda motorcycles, from ‘My First Licence' for 5-10 year olds, through to advanced high-speed courses on the latest Honda sports bikes.

A good idea, but without decent marketing it will fail.

It needs a telly ad campaign or National press.

Oh ye of little faith, I would have to disagree with you on TV as the costs far outlay the returns. The Ron Haslam Race School and 'My First Licence' have been extremely successful to a point that they are now copied by others and these have never had TV or National Press Advertising. However, social media is a great platform that I am sure will be utilised greatly so keep your eyes peeled. :)

Haha. Yes, but these are selling to people who are already bikers. Word of mouth and subtle advertising at shows and in bike mags.

You are trying to reach a far different demographic here. You need to advertise in car mags or national newspapers. It is true that social media is a good resource and will bring some in, but it needs to be promoted in different areas if you are going to entice completely new people.
