Right going to ditch the Desktop which I have THX speakers for music in the house instead of a Hifi. I have my onkyo A/V if I want anything on the Tv.

So was looking at investing in something like the Sonos for the hose for music. I listen a lot. I want something I can hook up to my NAS HD and laptop when I get it

    But I was looking at

Costco UK - Harman Kardon Aura Wireless Speaker System in Black

any suggestions other than these 2

I convinced mum to get a Sonos a few years ago and she loves it. But i'm just thinking of alternatives with good quality sound without braking the bank

The Sonos is a good system.
My mate has it set up in 3 rooms in his house and when I was listening to it at the weekend it really has good sound quality.

I'll also add that he has the Sonos Play 5 in his living room, the Sonos Play 3 upstairs in his room, and the Play 1 in his kitchen.

He says that he wishes he had just got the Play 5 and 2 x Play 1's, as the sound quality is actually better on the Play 1 than the Play 3.

Matt - I've got a Sonos which I play through a mega expensive Naim hifi system for the lounge and through a Play 5 in the conservatory. The sound quality from the Play 5 would satisfy most people I think and the fact you can stream different songs to different rooms is a bonus. The Sonos interface works on Android or Apple and is really good. As an all in one solution it's hard to beat.

Any idea how much that cost Colin ?
Want to have one in garage, one in sun room and another in kitchen.

Look at costco for Sonos as that's where I got mums and found it cheaper than anywhere.

So fr I have only got replies supporting the Sonos but no replies from peopl oh know or have anything else. Having used mums Sonos. For a few years I know how good it is just was hoping for other suggestions to look at before I get a Sonos lol

I've had Sonos for a few years and after playing about with it three other mates went a bought the system. I work from home and like a bit of music me
Even in the garden I plug one of my S5's on an extension and can have the same experience out on the deck!
    We've got 2 S5 and 1 S3.
Also good thing is that the model you buy now is exactly the same as the one we bought over 5 years ago. They got it right first time round. Too many times you spend yer cash and they change the product look just so they can say it's developed. Not always a good think IMO.
Once you have it set up to just move it you plug it into any room you want and your ready to rock.

I'm looking at getting a couple of Sonos 1's for the house along with the Sonos bridge. Had a listen to a lot of similar wireless speakers in John Lewis the other week and nothing came close to the Sonos for the money...

It depends what you want? Conveineance or Hi-Fi? Whilst I see Sonos as a very flexible means of getting music around the home, do not think you are buying hi-fi. There are many digital streamers available these days. I know it's a rag mag but What HiFi is a good place to start or visit Ripcaster. ripcaster.co.uk | free your music where you will see many forms of digital streaming. Don't forget with Sonos you will need the Sonos bridge unless you can hard wire all your Sonos devices.

I have all my music on a 1TB external hard drive.
Can this link to the Sonos, and then are you able to control it on one of the other units in a different room ?

You can get the. Sonos bridge off EBay for not very much money.

Ideally music needs to be stored on a NAS, network attached storage. Reasonably priced these days. If you can, rip your music uncompressed.

You only need a bridge if your router is not nearby at least one if your units. After at least one is connected to your router you can have over 30 which do not require to be hard wired.

If you don't want to stream your music you can access your library on your hard drive from any unit in any room.
Only problem you have if like me you have kids with laptops, iPods, iPhones, iPads which can all be used to control any music in any room. They can play havoc! Lol
