Hi all, can someone help please!!!!! I have a 2007 blade very well looked after, the problem is the bike starts sweet as a nut when the bike is cold but once the bike gets up to temperature and i switch off the engine it won't start again and seems to drain the battery resulting in me having to re-charge it which is no good anyway because i can't ride it anyway cos as i said when hot it won't start, someone told me i may have a faulty regulator/rectifier but not sure, can anyone shed some light on this.
Are you saying, when the bike has been running for a while the battery won't spin the engine, or does it spin but won't start. Mike.
Sounds like an Element of the problem is on the charging side. Can you try 'Jump Starting' the bike when hot. That may take you a little way forward depending on the result. Mike.
I don't think it's a problem with the battery, I changed it with the one off my 600 and it's still the same problem.
No Mike the starter sounds fine to me, in fact I've just come in from the garage after letting the bike cool down form this morning and having no charger on the battery and it started fine, let it get up to temp as before and same result no start although everything is turning over as it should be until the power drop from the battery.
Well if you have excluded the obvious stuff it's time for more in-depth approach, you can tie yourself in knots with intermittent faults, but luckily this seems more predictable. and if it can be easily demonstrated, I would put it on a Diagnostic computer. Diodes and wiring are beggers for failing under heat. Mike.
I suspect it's the starter motor, I had a VF1000F years ago with exactly the same problem, quite embarrassing at petrol stations and bump starting the big old 1000cc V4 wasn't easy.
Quite possible as while the starter is churning the engine over it could be starving the ECU/coil sticks of valuable voltage , or perhaps the voltage is too high due to over charging. Another theory could be the air temp sensor or similar may be telling the ECU that its freezing outside and over fuels or it's in the Sahara desert and is too hot and it's firing in a weak mixture. All these possible faults wouldn't necessarily flag up a fault code. A PowerCammander could if not set up correctly cause faults like this but so could a host of other sensors. 1. Whats the battery voltage when it wont start? 2.Try using a jump battery 3. Can you smell petrol 4. will it bump start?
Did change starter as big end went on it and ended up part Xing the bike so I could get back to Germany as I was on leave.
