I was just interested, given the universal condemnation we all give drunken drivers, how many here have EVER driven drunk? And by drunk, I don't mean pissed. I mean a situation in which you could reasonably be expected to be over the drink drive limit. Please, please, please be honest. I admit I have driven while i think I could have been worse for ware if you get me. Was I sure No. So could just be guilt
Iv served a 1 year ban when i was 18 . Went on the piss, took a slapper home , Took her home about dinner time the next day and got pulled on the way back . blew 40 on the road and 37 in the station which was 2 points over the limit . Done a drink driver course that took it down to an 8 month ban . Still longest 8 months of my life . Never done it since and will not drive till the following night at the soonest
8 years ago. The morning after the night before. Roughly half a pint over (would have been OK if I'd had brekkie & left it an hour or so). 20 month ban. Can't plead ignorance to the law. Lesson well & truly learnt. Never drive the next day & don't drink Sunday to Thursday night, because of work.
I have done in the past when I was 18/19, then my twin brother crashed his car rolling it three times into a field under the influence, he walked away (god knows how) but it made me think I would never drink and drive again. Now I just get the better half to drive or just dont bother, it just is not worth the risk
Many moons ago in Germany (Walsrode), we were all drinking, and at the end of the evening we took turns on the breathalyzer to see who had the lowest percentage of Alcohol in their system, was me, I bowed to peer pressure, nothing happened otheir than the Bar tender phoning the police on us :heh:
Yep, when I was a teenager, but that was long before the drink/ driving laws were in force, don't know how I survived tbh. I don't drink and drive now, haven't done for many years. BUT, reading what some people have said already, I'm thinking I do take a bit of a chance on occasions driving the day after a bit of a piss-up. I won't drive the morning after, but I have often driven in the afternoon. Think I'll stop that. JD
Did it when I was 16, only went from one village to another, about 1 mile, every time I saw head lights I was shitting myself incase it was a copper, I got away lightly, never got caught, although wether or not it was relief at getting home ok? But the 5pints of Newcastle brown ale I'd consumed earlier spewed out of my mouth as I got to the gateway, and yes, I did still have my helmet on, with my Boston united scarf round my neck, so it had nowhere to run, oh that centurion 2000 never smelt the same again, I also know what a goldfish feels like.
done it once when i was about 20ish. took my bike to girlfriends house as was meant to be staying over. went out on the town had a fall out with her so didnt stay went home in bad mood. looked out window next morning and my gpz900 leaning against the bull bar on brothers rangerover. it suddenly hit home how bad i must of been. got away with it but never again. lifes too short its never worth it.!!
Like most have said, did it when i was in my teens, from what i can remember quite regularly. Worst time was at a party & a friend wanted some fags from petrol station, gave him a lift, i was gone past the stage of being pissed. Luckily now i am old, i cant drink more than 2 pints without feeling wasted, so i wouldn`t even attempt it.
Never ever ... not because of the law ... its because I have never found a alcoholic beverage that I like the taste of .
I frightened myself many many years ago when doing a shoot at a RAOB function on a Sunday lunch time. Local dignitaries, men of commerce etc etc all plying with each other to be the most amenable and generous host and me like an idiot, kept picking up my glass paying scant attention to the fact that it was always full and enjoying being welcomed into this cabal of 'important' gentlemen. I was petrified driving home and, to this day, cannot tell you why I even attempted it. But it did serve as an early wake up call to me of how you can catch yourself out, so I just don't do it anymore. My driving licence is precious to me and my fear of compromising it over rides all other considerations when I'm relying on it to get me home. I know that may sound a bit selfish when compared with the danger that drunk driving puts others into but it's the spur that keeps me honest and, in the end, that's what counts. Funny. But I thought long and hard about actually taking part in this thread. Not because any fear of retribution for discussing it in open forum, but because I am still embarrassed by a mistake that I made over 25 years ago, despite, fortunately, there being no negative consequences from it.
Early 20's thats my age not the year?? Fell out with my dad in Horncastle after a couple of pints and drove home to Grantham. 4 hours later in my car sat in the town centre eating chips whan a police car pulled up oposite. I new I had a light out and therefore decided to sit it out, he recognised that and also waited. When I give up and pulled away he followed so I decided to pull up a side road so he could pull me in private. Have you been drinking son? No officer. Blow into her please, he pointed at the breathalyser led showing orange and repeated what I had said, 'no officer' indeed. I know that if he had pulled me a couple of hours earlier I would have been over the limit. I have never driven when I have had even one drink since!!!!!1 Now I'm a year or two older I think differently, I couldn't live with myself if I hurt a child after a drink.
I leave the car or the missus drives as she doesnt drink much. I have felt rough the day after a good sesh ( a bottle of wine these days is a good sesh for me, and im not a late drinker, certainly not after 10pm! im a sodding lightweight!!) and drove...i don't know whether i would be over the limit after a bottle the day before?
I've never intentionally had a drink and drove, but I have had nights out with a lot to drink and felt worse for wear the next day and driven, but always eat enough in the morning to help absorb some of the alcohol. Not technically the same as drink-driving, but still classified as not fit for driving.
Thats how i got done mate . pulled me at 12.00 ish the next day after id had food and i was just over . I felt a bit rough but definitely not pissed and i got banned for a bloody year
