Glad it aint just me then All I know, is on tour, same miles, same roads, same conditions and same pace as everyone else and my rear (brand new on on thur) was shot compared to everyone else's? No one else on s20's.... Same bike and same suspension settings I get +5k out of pr3's or just over 2k on sportsmarts. Just my experience..... And just saying like.
Welcome to the forum mate. I use BT023's on my 2011 Blade. Great tyres and I have got 5500 miles out of the rear! BUT I will be getting the T30's next time.
Worst slides ive had have been on Michelins. On my arse for no reason due to Michelins. Scottish roads are hard on tyres. You need Pirelli, Bridgestone or Metzeler.
Well, for what ever the real reason was for your 'experiences' on Michelin tyres coop, you're in a minority of 1!
Had 2cts and pr3's/4's and can't say that I've had same experience, but tyres are a personal thing so get what your saying. And yes - Scottish roads are bloody hard on tyres.
I need a new back tyre, probably be a Dunlop. Was going to plug mine, has a screw in it, anyway have this if anybody wants it. Sprocket cover that's been converted for race shift.
Am I missing something here ? It seems like some people ain't happy with getting 2-3000 miles out of a rear tyre , how many miles do people think they're gunna get 8000 ? Surely the most important thing is grip , after all the blade is a very quick tand powerful machine . Surely you can have a tyre with lots of grip but don't last or a not so good tyre thattl last a long time but you may not have remained on the bike . Or is there a tyre that can do both ?
IMO pr'3s and 4's mate.... But tbh, I'm boring myself with saying it lol. They are awesome, I can't ride any quicker on them in the road, toured, done some pretty quick laps on the ring on them and know lads who have run in fast group on them. Oh and they last more than 5k is a bonus, as I'd have them even if they returned similar miles to everything else. For road - and only IMHO I think nothing comes close. 2k in my experience is around normal for "grippy" tyres but when your doing a big tour and loads of miles each year you get sick of sticking on new rear tyres. Specially when it isn't needed....
I've got Pirelli rossos on mine and this is the 3rd set over 2blades I've owned and I reckon an average for me is 4000 out a rear 90% done on Scottish roads
That's a good return. I'd be happy with that, liked the Pirelli when I tried it and loads swear by the drc's! Nav was going bloody well on them at snet and on a ride out recently Can't say what they are like in wet though as the sight of a dark cloud has him running for the hills lol
Thought those pr3 & 4's are for sports touring bikes , not an out and out sports bike ? I'll be swapping my tyres back end of year I've currently got s20's that came on the bike from new . Interested in everybody's opinions on what's good and what's not
They are very good Jimbo and I'm fully 'Qualified' to pass judgement as I swapped from PR3's last Summer to Pirelli Rosa Corsa's untill recently when I swapped out the Pirelli's for Mich PR4's which feel identical in the dry and are a good step up in the Wet, not that the Pirelli's were shyte in the wet, far from it! ..............................Scottish road or not coop, we have some right shyte roads here in Leafy Cheshire as well!
Best tyres I've tried Stevie are the Sportmarts, but after seeing how the PR's perform I can honestly say they are in a different league. In the wet on the Scotland Tour, Andy was running with them and at the front. There was steam coming from his tyres when we stopped off and nothing was fazeing those tyres.
Dave v did this to mine on my r1 when he borrowed it for a track day... He didnt seem to be on touring pace lol Think that was 2nd session. They also seem to get very hot on road too.... Rather my racetec for track obviously but for road and all round they are mint.
Your right dude Sports touring tyres but have the technology for our use ...Plus have you seen the speed some of these touring types " two up " get up to? Some put up a right struggle to the end
I had a set of pirelli's on my bike when I got it and thought they were pretty good during the Scotland tour until the rain came that is! In the dry I felt as normal you had to hold back for miby first 15-20 mins till some heat got in em then they gave a pretty good return in grip but when the rain came they were slipping n slidin all over the place, the more rain led to less grip, more holly crap moments n even less confidence in them with me fallin further and further behind the group as I tried to keep the bike upright! Said this before but Never ever ever again will Pirelli rubber be put on any bike I own n intend to use on the roads!!!
