my other half works 3 evenings and all day saturday until 9pm. those 3 days she,s out the door within 15 minutes of me getting in from work. i have to finish off tea duties with kids (5 and 6). have my tea entertain the boys and then bath and bed time for them. have 2 evenings to myself which i try and catch up with few mates as well as been trying to get the house in shape after few years of neglect outside. i have the audi and 2 bikes to entertain but sometimes wanna just chill in the chair and do bugger all. i,m 42 and never been the fittest guy in the world and keeping going takes its toll. hoping to start studying soon if i can so when i do unwind its usually at home when kids in bed and wife at work. a few forums bit of car/bike programs and a cuppa! used to go out with the lads quite often but know ts only about 3-4 times a year and when i do don,t wanna get hammered and ruin the following day!

Cant remember the last time I went on holiday. I feel like I have been starting a business for 20 odd years of my life.

No one said it was going to be easy tykey...

They didnt say it was going to be this hard either haha.
Im going to have my first break in years in a few weeks. Going to Ride from Portland USA to Baltimore with my teenage daughter. Just to switch off from work for a week is going to so great. More than that though, to know that everything will be fine at work while Im away is fantastic. phew, finally a real break. Im sure any self employed guys on here will understand what I mean.

Sorry to say, the older you get, the more expensive your toys get, which means you need to work more to pay for them.

you will buy a bigger house, so work more to pay for it.

you have more holidays, so work harder to pay for them.

then, you have kids, and they cost more.

then they go to university, which costs £££££'s, so you work harder and take less holidays.

But,one bit of advice is MAKE TIME for yourself and family/loved ones/mates.....you can never ,ever get time back but you can always earn extra cash. Took me 43 years to find this out.

Sounds like we all work hard for our cash me and the wife are no different
I've had years of working 6/7 days a week but have only recently knocked it down to doing only 5 days a week my 2 girls are now 20 and 18 so are bit more independent so gives us a bit more free time
Saturdays are now my own and my playtime as the wife goes off to the gym I can relax in the garage or take the blade out for a nice ride
Saturday evenings and Sundays are usually spent with the wife or catching up with friends
Life is very busy but at the moment life is good

I can align with most of these comments above, seems to mirror my life.

In the last month, now kidless in the house, but I am working the sort of hours I did when I was in my 20/30s, which seems dumb, but with retirement probably 10 years or so away, the penny has dropped how expensive it will be, so if I want to maintain the same type of lifestyle and toys I get through now, I need to work my nuts off to pay for it.

Unfortunately the wife has already rebutted the idea of downsizing on some remote rock in the Outer Hebrides to unlock equity, so full steam ahead to either I drop dead or retire.

So chill time means, sport, beers, holidays and friends and family has to be factored around long work days.

Still as my Dad always said hard work never killed anyone, but stepping out in front of the bus because you were too tired to look was another matter though.

Life can be testing sometimes, I have felt it enough myself over recent years, but the ability to smile through adversity and get on with it is important. We dont end up with our toys and lifestyle by being lazy, Yeah life is what you make it when it happens. Clarkey it sounds like your life is that way because you worked at it. Life is good, but I know plenty of people who dont get it and all they do is complain about how bad things are. For me life is good because I went in search of happiness and found it was with me all the way. Life is good!!!

Oh and a quick answer to that busy lifestyles start Yorkshire Tyke....

If I had not been so busy with the ol' todger all them years ago I maybe wouldn't be on my way now to airbrush Disney Princesses onto my Grand daughters bedroom wall. I would instead be out on the bike to Whitby this afternoon with the boys.
    The sacrifices we make ey.
