Please tell me I'm not the only one to have done this..... Started the bike up today to back it so I could clean it ready for a ride out tomorrow. Started moving the bike....CRUNCH! WTF!? Oh...balls....disc lock...!!! How much is a decent 2nd hand '09 ABS Repsol front mudguard gonna cost me? Fuppin' arse!
If your going down disc lock route there is only one worth buying and that a road lok best on market would never had busted your fender but mint if you want to do a burnout and get some heat in your boots before getting out of manhut
My mate did it the day after he picked up a brand new gsx750r. Thankfully only the very expensive carbon fibre one was fitted
I've done this a few times! but luckily for me ( and coz I'm a short arse with even shorter legs) I need to get off the bike and push to get out of most of my parking spaces. So these moments only happen when pushing so little damage done!
The worst thing is - I have one of those in lovely Repsol orange - and yes it was fitted to the bike. Sadly it was on the other side of the bike as I approached it and I was just to keen to get it out in the sun
Ok bit late now but try this.....put it over the throttle and the front brake lever (pulling it in) that way you should be double aware it's there
As a future preventative method you could purchase the likes of the 'bike it' lever strap or a similar Velcro strap that would lock the front brake in place so you can't move the bike!
I have had plenty of "Oh F**k" moments, so your not on ya own there. Not done the disc lock one, although I have one of those curly cables onto the handlebars
I've done the same buddy, gutting. Yes it will cost you money but it's only plastic/metal not life and limb. You might be able to get it repaired?
Experience is expensive, best thing you can do is learn and it'll save you money in the future, so it's an investment really. I think my glass is always half full. Enjoy your ride bud, ....Mike.
I have a lace tied around my reminder cable. Reminder cable goes on the brake lever and the lace loops around the throttle. Would work on clutch side as well as you can't hold the grip without the lace getting in the way.
A few years ago, probably around 17years ago, I pulled away swiftly at a bike meet with the front discs lock still installed. Did a lot of damage!! Never used a disc lock since.
Thanks for the comments guys - glad I'm not the only numpty to have done this! I went out on the bike yesterday and the damage isn't too noticeable so I'm gonna leave it and keep my eyes peeled for a decent used replacement (OEM Honda). Needless to say I'm a lot more aware of the lock now and it's the first thing I do when I approach the bike...you live and learn I guess!
