A bit weird this one. Normally, first press of the starter and she roars into life, she has never missed a beat or struggled to turn over. This afternoon however I popped into town, literally a 10 minute ride and when I got back, turned the ignition off so I could get off and open the garage door (key left in and ignition still on, headlight on and fans running etc. as temperature was up and over 100 degrees) and then jumped back on to ride into the garage; there is a slight incline outside my garage so its easier to ride in, pushing is too hard graft (that's what I tell myself anyway)! Pressed the starter and she groaned, the starter barely turning over and the dash flashing then the clicking noise as the starter couldn't even turn over. Weird. Pushed her into the garage and connected to the Optimate which said I had 11.8v in the battery. She's being charged now so I'll see what happens in the morning but I don't understand how a few minutes, if that, with the ignition on would discharge the battery? I've left it MUCH longer than that before and she would just purr into life. What do you think? Have I got an issue or just one of those things? And no, the kill switch most definitely was not on...
battery is pooped.. i just bought a lithium ion one for £64 from M&P.. my battery was heading the same way after 3 years of use..
Would it literally go like that in the space of 10 minutes? bearing in mind when I started her at the start of the ride, and when I set off back 10 minutes previously she started instantly... Best get shopping, again!
sounds like the battery mate how old is it? might not be holding the charge first thing to check anyway Boo
Batteries are strange things. When they get ready to go, it's not linear. They can test fine too, right up till you try to pull some Volts from it... Then it'll drop to nothing. You charge it and sometimes it'll even start your motor... For a bit... Then eventually it'll just drop soon as you pull anything from it, 'fully charged' or not... Lead/Acid are usually only good for around 2-3 years according to the last AA bloke I had to get out... Anything more is a bonus.. H
Thanks guys, I'll brave the dealer in the morning and see how much they want to fleece me for, if it's much more than online (which I'm guessing it will be) that's my ride cancelled tomorrow! Think I'll stick with a conventional battery, can't justify the expense of a Lithium and put off with the specialist charger. To be honest, I'm not worried about weight saving to that degree, it'd be cheaper just to eat salad for a bit ;- )

Yeah, already had a look at the bay and thought they look the best bet. Wishful thinking for tomorrow but thought I'd at least check as the dealer is just round the corner. Realistically though, it'll be the bay on Monday and take the other half shopping instead tomorrow. Biscuits of arse.
I think it could be the battery too, but I have had to pay for battery's before when that wasn't the fault (The mec always say's the battery was gone anyway covering his poor skills) my advice is test the system properly and fix the correct part first time, it saves a fortune, It's amazing how few so called mechanics can properly diagnose a charging fault. Thanks Mike. My gut feeling is battery too, only being 2 years old I'd be pretty disappointed if it were the charging system itself - BUT - I'll get the meter out in the morning and check things over before commuting to spending any hard earned $$.
It actually sounds like it could be the Starter Relay Switch I had to replace mine on my CB1 it just clicked instead of turning the motor and I had plenty of juice in my battery! It just happened without warning! Put ignition on, lights come on, push starter button and nothing but clicking Although I can bump start the CB1 but the Blade's a different story the slipper clutch see's to that But I would get it checked out rather than just buying a new battery mate good luck Trev
Yes. This morning it was absolutely fine! Started 3 or 4 times leaving the ignition and full beam on for a minute or so in between attempts and she purred into life without so much as a cough!!
