we can disagree about this ALL DAY long mate but Velcro ain't as good as bolts, and that's a fact :)

velcro would look crap on my tail tidy, (bolts give a nice tight fit) so would wouldn't fit as neat or be as secure either :D

So what you are saying is Velcro for lazy and bolts for skill ;) :D sorted :D

end of from me on this topic now

I wouldn't trust normal Velcro, but this stuff is worth thinking about - 3M Dual Lock:

3M Dual Lock Fasteners - Demon Tweeks

Used it to secure my headlight covers on my previous bike. The thing never blew off even at "enthusiastic speeds" - and that's in direct line of the windblast!

I apologise for stating what's worked for me and venturing an opinion that differs from yours.

I'll PM you next time to tap into your encyclopaedic knowledge before posting so that I don't look like an idiot.

    Forums!

Cheers Rich, good to see someone else use's the stuff. Main reason I used it was because I hate those plastic bolts, and I had a variety of different size number plate's, and quick and easy to change.

I never had a problem with plate coming off even at high speed, but you must go for the industrial stuff, not the stuff that you would get off a market stall that sells buttons etc

Bolts are better, but do spoil the look of the number plate (my opinion)

Get the drill out and then coloured bolts to match where you drill, yellow and black if you drill through a number. Sorted !

The trick to drilling is to put something behind it, so you're not pushing the end of the plate out, you're actually drilling it still. Stick a block of wood behind and you'll be fine, plus use the right drill bit and let the bit do the work, not pressure

Sounds like a lot of work to avoid getting the drill out, which is very simple!

Otherwise double sided tape. Clean both surfaces properly then it'll be fine, especially if its good quality tape

It's all about the planning, choose on the slots where the best place for the bolts will be, equidistant. Of course
2 tail tidys & 3 number plates later the OCD is now happy with it

Yep, just done this for my private plate which i have just had put onto it..... must admit to never really giving it a second thought, i just drilled two holes (very easy) and put it onto the tail tidy..... both black bolts and the job is done. Does not look a mess, it just looks '' normal ''.

If you were proper OCD Stevie you'd have coloured in the bottom .5 millimetres of the yellow bolts where they meet the letters ;)

I'm fairly happy with it, and even the screw heads are facing the same way, lol actually seen some guy the other day put his on with silicone, grey coloured as well. Looked like he'd applied a full tube on the number plate then pressed it onto the tail tidy, had all set squelched out of all the holes etc, I kid you not I was cringing. Dear oh dear

100% wrong. Use the heavy duty velcro that you buy in rolls from B&Q/homebase, definitely won't come off. In fact you'll have a job to pull the f****r off after you've attached it.

Don't mind at all, i got it from the DVLA and it cost £300. When i bought it the girl on the phone asked why i did buy it..... they like to remove all the '' desirable '' plates and put them into a special auction, so they want to understand why this plate was special. They were thinking too much for cars and not considering motorbikes, when i explained why putting it onto a car would just be pointless but a bike would not.... the penny dropped. I am sure if there were similar plates along these lines then they would be in specialist auctions by now.

Reasonable money then Hudson, don't think such bargains are available now, dvla are getting wiser as to what is desire able all the time. I'm keeping my eye out for a private bargain, maybe fleebay
