I really don't understand this obsession that some people have with wearing a 20k watch on their wrist.

They don't tell the time any better than a £20 Casio and surely that's the point of a watch?

Is it basically jewellery for men?

Are there any watch aficionados on here?

I didn't give my service director a pay rise last year, based on the fact that if he can afford a £12k Breitling on his wrist I was already paying him too much.

I like a nice watch, but would be way down on my priorities as far as purchases.. If I had everything else I wanted then perhaps could spend max 4k on something but no more.

Brother inlaw has a nice rolex, paid 4k for it 7 years ago and is now woth 7k! So can be a good investment

I can understand a certain amount of expenditure but beyond the 4K mark it just seems like willy-waving :D

I've got one good watch which I bought to be a future heir loome, not the sort of thing I can afford to collect but I would like more, can't justify it though.
I saved about a grand by buying in the carribean last year.

Not at all. my mate paid about 5k for a Bretling SOS (this watch) breitling-emergency-ii-gear-patrol-breakdown-full.jpg

he's a Bush pilot in Indonesia and if he needs to use the SOS part it's a bloody good idea

It's all relative. I've had my fair share of decrnt watches and I'm pleased to say that every one of them turned me a profit. I certainly didn't have profit as an intention it was just the way the market went with rrp's rising say 8-10% per annum and sometimes twice a year. Buy at the right price and you can wear a £10k watch for a few years and maybe it'll make you a grand.

I'm out of playing that game now, and if i did have a spare bucket of cash i'd probably buy another bike now.

Are they man jewellery..... I guess so, but it can be a damn sight more interesting than looking at a bank statement.

I find it a bit odd that they sell these things as being rugged and water proof to 200 atmospheres but anyone who is genuinely needing a rugged watch will buy a Casio G-Shock.

Deepsea is an awesome watch and a good example of my point.... Only 4 or 5 years ago these were around £5k, now they are just above £8k. On the secondhand market they were a little unloved for a while and £5k was there level even a year or two ago. You'll struggle to find a SH one now for much less than £6.5k.

Again, an awesome watch, and would be my pick if the current Rolex range.

As the saying goes, you tell the character of a man by 2 things, his watch and his shoes.

Doesn't have to be expensive to say good things about you. But I agree with KB tbh....

I like my watches, got it from my dad ("shoes and watches boy, tell a lot about a man" ) who has some collection I tell ya.... Vintage, new, weird, cheap and expensive....

Have a few brand watches I keep, my main watch I wear everyday, round the house, work, out and even on bike....

    Omega - love it

    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401370015.632323.jpg

And a breitling similar to this i wear every now and then....

    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401370109.148621.jpg

Would love an iwc next but talking a lot of money and I know I'd hardly wear it as the omega is MY watch.... Big sentimental value and nothing to do with how much it cost etc

I'd like to think that I'd never judge a bloke by something he'd bought from a shop.

Not what he bought but maybe how he wears it? Cheap shoes polished look better than expensive dirty ones ;)

And my bet is you do without realising.....
