Hi, Thinking of getting a Kriega US20 tail pack for a small trip away. Before I buy it, I have checked the fitting instructions on the Kriega website, but looking at the Blade I just can't workout where or how the straps will fit to the subframe under the seat? Has anyone got any pictures under the seat with the straps fitted, so I can get some idea? Cheers....
They just loop round the pillion seat, no need to attatch to subframe, I had one on my r6 a few years ago when went too tt and couldn't fault it, never moved an inch!
I have tons of Kriega gear and I can tell you the hook straps don't work on the Blade. Just use the standard straps as blade1980 says and put them under and around the seat. It won't move at all.
Kriega recommend these days to fit the straps to the subframe which is possible, just loosen off the rear cowl to gain access. I used to rely on the just the pillion seat taking the strain and it was fine but when Kriega provided the loop straps and hooks it makes sense to fit to the subframe, then you can add as much weight and not have to worry about your luggage going missing.
Thanks guys, at least I know it will fit either way now. How much movement is there in the rear cowl once all bolts are removed, as I hear they are tricky and the subframe looks a tight fit in there...
Yep, a brilliant bit of kit. I had my straps fixed under the seat but I moved them to the subframe which is far better and also peace of mind security. I'll try to take a pic, but I basically put the connecting loop sticking out one side (in position), and I threaded it under the rear frame then threaded the opposite strap to it through the buckle, then tied them both off on the other buckle. (I cut away loads of extra strap) The front strap I fitted under the seat lock mechanism in the same way. It doesn't foul the lock at all. Re reading that it sounds more complicated than it is! I farted about for ages off the bike, to find a way of locking the straps off against each other then fitted them. Was good for 180! In fact, it might have been 189.9.....
It's all a bit Mickey Mouse which ever way U tackle it. Far better with a Rentec Rack and strap to that instead!
Not the best pic but the lower strap is obv under the subframe. The front strap has never fouled the lock. As has been said there will be several ways you could secure it but this has worked for me.
How quick do you need the pics? I have one that I haven't been arsed to fit yet but as it is just 4 bolts I can't see it being too difficult, even for a mechanical numpty like me.
No rush mate, just ordered myself a US20. I already have a US10, but it has the old system where you pass the straps under the rear seat/cowl.
Got my Kriega US20 last week and all fitted today, ready for next weeks trip... Took a slightly different approach and left the straps on the sub frame slightly longer. Seems to work OK though, and no movement on the bike. Cheers
Sorry, why, why, why don't you just get the Ventura set-up, perfect, no scrapping on paint work, stable, don't slip, couple of quick clips and your in your hotel with all your gear !! Did 161mph and still stable and great on the B500. I should be on commission, lol, also a Givi 307 tanklok bag too !!
Thanks for your post but it's only a short trip so the kriega is spot on for size. The tail pack is great and suits my needs plus didn't move at all. Cheers
