Hey guys not sure if this has been mentioned already but saw this article recently..... Police draft in 350bhp Ariel Atom for motorcycle operation - Motorcycle news : General news - Visordown
been doing the run on FB the last 24 hours. Thinking PR stunt if no how often with we see it due to running cost
Ok it accelerates like a bike but still can't weave in and out of traffic so no better than a car in pursuit
have you driven one? on open roads I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting away from that - no chance! and it wont be utilised in built up areas anyway. where they wouldn't chase you anyway.
I just think they would be better off on bikes than this, for the overtaking and just for your view over any traffic ahead, on a bike you can see over roofs of cars, sat in that your looking up the tail pipe. Jimbo you ridden with me you know their chances of catching me! They will go get a diesel fiesta or a push bike lol
This whiffs of PR as mentioned! Even if they did pursue you and pull you over....youd be off again by the time they had released the fangled seat belt system lol If anyone is unlucky enough to get pulled by this ( I Doubt) just talk real quietly, as The poor plod is gonna be deaf after chasing you in that, lol
Pr is what i'm thinking and Martin I would have this car fully batterburged up than a bike. At least you can see it coming
Oh yea I'm just trying to see it from their benefit, and just happy they are having fun with our taxes lol
It's just pr like a few other cars they have had done up to look like police car, this won't be used in pursuits I doubt very much you Will ever see it doing more of a police job than being pulled up at a car park for bikers trying to look cool and intimidating at the same time Then tend to rent these things from companies for various road safety days
Back in the day we used to get all sorts of fancy cars and bikes to play with as both a PR excercise and a tempter to try and get forces to buy their products. We had a Lamborghini Countach, Mercedes 500, Audi Quattro, various Jags, Ferrari's We even had this on a 2 year trial Twin turbo senator which was like snot off a stick and run out of puff at just under 190 MPH. At the end of the trial it went to the crusher along with its sister which was based at one of our northern bases. I gave a trial to a Aston Martin Tickford motorcycle with a Kawasaki GTR1000 engine, we had a Moto Martin Yamaha XS1100 in a develpment of the Norton Featherbed fram plus all sorts of other wonderfull and weird exotica You can understand the manufacturers reasoning. You only have to look at how many Ford Escorts, Granadas and BMW R80's and K1000 were sold on the back of the Police using them on the basis that many members of the public worked on the basis that if they were good enough for the Police, then it would do them a good turn as well. So god PR and marketing for the likes of Atom if they can get the publicity such as they have here.
