All I have just returned from a North Wales meet, there were about 25 bikes, we stayed in Llangollen in The Royal Hotel, it was £90 for 2 nights in a twin room (sharing with someone else) and this included breakfast and lunch which was of a good standard. We all arrived on the Friday eve after an enjoyable ride up, had a few beers and some dinner then on Saturday morning we left Llangollen at 10am and went out on a 180 mile ride out, the roads were incredible, I didn't know there were such good roads in the UK, there was a great combination of long sweeping bends which went on for miles and miles and technical twisty stuff. We then returned to the hotel late afternoon for beers before dinner, heading out for a few in Llangollen (the talent was a little suspect I must say) after and setting off for home on Sunday morning after a fry up. The reason I am writing this post is that I would like to propose a Fireblade Forum weekend to North Wales, we have the vital ingredients (hotel, food, beer, route) and it'd be a fantastic trip - I was smiling from ear to ear until yesterday and now my face hurts. Please respond to this thread if you would be interested, I would think August/September would be the best time to go as everyone gets pretty booked up in the summer. Cost wise, you're looking at £90 for hotel, I spent about £100 on fuel (around 600 miles in total), then realistically another £50-100 on beer/lunch depending how heavily you drink/eat. So all in £250 quid which isn't bad for a cracking weekend. Cheers BearOnBlade (Barns)
I'd be interested. Go North Wales whenever I get a free day and just love the roads around there. Roads up from Shropshire are great to and all around Snowdon. Check out the B4391 from Bala to Ffestiniog. It's like a mini TT course. Not massively long but winds, dips and curves the whole way and very quiet so can often apex the turns on the other side of the road if nothing is coming of course. So much fun. A good place to play with your suspension I've found. I'm new to the blade after having a 675 Daytona so found it a little more of a handful this time round. Great fun though! In other words...I'm in!
Sounds good did a trip before through the Black mountains some really good roads! I'll be up for it depending on dates!
Oh right. It's a cracking little road. I always a make a point of stopping in the lay by there and then just riding up and down it 3-4 times! Only done it once on the blade and it's not as flickable as the little 675 so still getting used to it but loved it all the same. I actually fitted a helmet cam on when I went there the other week and the damn thing was point at my clocks the whole time and not the road. lol.
Let me know when and I'll be there, don't live far from Llangollen so might be able to add a few roads to your route. Andy B
I'd be up for a meet as living here it isn't a problem for me plus I know where all the best roads are hiding Also Restone and M3ntalist live in North Wales too so reckon they'd come along and maybe even Alblade who lives in Stockport.
I think there's a few of you in Stockport isn't there? Another joined a week or two ago aswell. Andy B
Ok I can feel a plan formulating. Who else is interested? If we can get a decent enough group then I will think about suggesting dates and speak with the hotel.
I'm up for it. I stay at the royal in Llangollen regularly, was there this weekend for my wedding aniversary on the bike, lovely hotel and good value. pm me before you book as I know the owner quite well and will get you a decent discount. As a snowdonia resident I can confirm that the roads are ace. Serious suggestion wait untill mid september as August traffic can be horrific with all the grocs.
Hi All, time is flying at the moment and I am sure we all have a lot going on during the summer, if you are interested in this trip please can you let me know your availability for the weekend of the 20th September, arriving Friday 19th afternoon/evening for a few beers and some food, then doing the ride out on the Saturday, returning back to the hotel for more of the same, then heading homeward bound on the Sunday. Obviously people who live near are welcome to join just for the ride. If we have a decent enough group I will call the hotel and make inquiries about a special group rate - £45p/p per night was the rate previously, in a sharing twin room. It will be a cracking weekend so let's try and make it happen - plus it would great to meet the other bladers!! Fire away with your availability here....! Barns
