Well done gents . I think it was old Kpone that got the juices running I will see if I can find another .
All well and good having a nice big boat, but they are a pain to park. Looks like my neighbours daughter may have parked that one.
Great pic there MrB just watching his 132 lap the other day has left me with a huge man crush ! Although that ginger beard is a beauty !!!!
Off on a bit of a pilgrimage tonight to Upottery airfield. Where 70 years ago this evening, paratroopers, including units of the 101st Airborne Division's Easy Company of 'Band of Brothers' fame left for the precursor of the D-Day landings. The place has been better known as Smeatharpe race track in the intervening years but is now just a rotting collection of industrial units and boarded up block houses. It looks as if it's going to be a nice evening so the bikes will be cracked out and Keithy and I will spill a brew on the hill and listen for the ghosts of heroes flying over us. Hopefully, pictures to follow...
Well there's not much left above ground at Smeatharpe now. From the air the runways, dispersal points and the peri track are all as they were 70 years ago, but only a few, odd boarded up buildings hark back to midnight, June 5th 1944 when 81 C47s loaded with 1300 members of the 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne division took off for Utah Beach. The only noise there now comes from the skylarks and the chugging light aircraft from neighbouring Dunkerswell airfield, but tonight there are more than a few ghosts.
Photo a wife took of our new lodgers. The white box in the foreground is where they are supposed to have relocated to. Guess they are there for the summer.
